Hello gents, I hope you’re enjoying “working” from home, doing absolutely nothing. Now that much of the r*ddit riffraff has gone, we can be comfy in peace.

I do hope you’ve got a substantial raise since this started.

Unironically fiverr or upwork. If you have in demand skill (and even if you don’t), there’s tons of hobs people need done. I treat it like a side quest. To start out, massively underbid on contracts to make sure you get them, start accessing good feedback for timely quality work, and then it will start coming to you.

Was there a year neets got btfo any harder than 2020?

all of their smug mocking turned on its head as the true white collar chads became the king of the neets, collecting five to six figure salaries instead of government scraps by wiggling a mouse every ten minutes from the comfort of their home, all the while still retaining the respect and admiration of friends and family and all the freedoms of neethood.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a mass neet suicide soon.

How the fuck do you only make 15k in 4 years even factoring in part time. What shithole gingbok ganesh country do you live in?

There’s all kinds of projects including team ones. If you fail hard the worst that happens is bad reviews and it’s harder to get work, enough and you get B&. My actual workload from before covid and now has not changed in the slightest. The only difference is in the meaningless fluff work I would engage in while under the watchful eye of the workplace to feign productivity.

Now I only do the actual work I have to do and don't have to spend an hour of my day driving to an office filled with people I don't care about to do the 2 hours of work week that I can do from the comfort of my computer. This doesn't even include the hours of wasted productivity in coffee breaks, mindless socialization, extended lunches, moving to and from meetings, etc.

This isn't some newfound revelation. This has always been the case. WFH simply put things in perspective.

Pretty much me. I do nothing all day and sometimes stay late because of it, and when I do I get thumbs up from my boss.

The thing is when I started here I busted my ass off learning the systems and genuinely put in between 50 and 60 hour work weeks when support was particularly heavy. Now I’m one of the most knowledgeable people in my area and we keep hiring idiots who refuse to learn what we support so I literally slack off all day other than meetings and answering questions or occasionally looking into things. I put in maybe 10 hours of work a week now. I’m a “software engineer” but I’ve only spent like 1% of my “work” time of the last year writing code

Went back to school at 26 after being a retail wagie for too long, got an associates in Computer Networking/Security, took on an internship for a small (7 people including me) telecom company that turned into a fulltime gig, covid hit and my boss is a germaphobe so he kicked me out and told me to work from home and there are no plans for me to return, it was a small office to begin with and we already had another guy work exclusively from home. I've recently cut back to 28 hours a week so I can do classes fulltime again; right now I'm about 2 more semesters from finishing my Bachelors. I've been working like a dog for the last 3 years, but shit does get better anon. Just don't expect it to happen, you're going to be working harder than ever for awhile if you want to escape the wagie-cagie. I used to live in new jersey and everyone there had a 2 hour each way commute and acted like it was normal. as a kid it horrified me. i fucked off to a city that supposedly had good transit to escape that shit. but in reality it didn't. the light rail coverage LOOKED like it would be decent, but due to transfers, sprawl (city metro was literally a 30 mile smear...cities in europe are like 2 miles across, max), and low frequencies, in reality the commute was hell. moved to a really liberal city instead that swears it's a public transit mecca. frequencies are damned good here. worst commute i had here was 45 min, and 20 of that was walking in a scenic area. now my office is a 10 min walk from my apt, but i still wfh anyway.

you couldn't pay me enough to live in dallas. 2 hours on a train/bus is one thing but 2 hours driving, especially in traffic, is a uniquely american hell. and the hilarious thing is that america used to have the BEST transit in the world before boomers ripped out all our trains and streetcars and sprawled the shit out of our cities.

there are at most 10 cities in america worth living in. everything else is total garbage. i hate liberals but it's better liberals with transit than the other side.

I got switched around to different teams (sort of promotions). From December into most of January, I was working in an outbound-focused role and legit able to dick off because the company's sales volume outpaced their ability to scale personnel and monitor them effectively.

My last week, after another role change, I was getting hassled for the dumbest shit while legitimately doing work. I was on their highest tier of performers, too. I left. Fuck that shit.

We do sprints with stories etc and even though the stories are really easy because I'm in the team for like 3 years and most of my colleagues are noobs, so they estimate shit which takes like a day max at 3 points which is like 3 days of work. Of course I don't correct them and during the sprint I often volunteer to take these inflated stories which are actually very easy. Now here comes the trick, the first day I work my ass off and pretty much finish the story in like half a day, fully focussed. Then, I immediately push the code and on the NEXT DAY, I announce I'm looking for a code reviewer in my team.

Now here comes the trick, the team is now aware you worked really hard and you are looking to push the story through the sprint from review to test. So once they know, I just say to the reviewer "wait, this might take some extra work, I think I missed an edge case" or a variation thereof. The reviewer is often happy he can continue his own work and I then proceed to do LITERALLY NOTHING the entire day BUT at the end of the day, I do this:

git commit --amend --date="$(date -R)"

Literally no changes but it shows up as entire new commit in Slack, JIRA, Gitlab and so forth. Then the next day, I announce to the team I found some edge cases I had to cover and I discussed this with <name of reviewer>, praising him for his help. Explicitly giving the word to him next so that he can CONFIRM we in fact did this. It's like an alibi of doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and the reviewer is kinda put on the spot because he knows nothing about those edge cases and can say not much more than "yeah, anon is right that's what we did and I continued with story yada yada".

This is basically how I coast through the entire work week and of course the scenario is not exactly the same every day but the gist of it is I pretend I work my ass off yet doing like 5% of the work pitch perfect.

I know for a fact that many colleagues of mine don't work that hard either. I'm NEVER going back to the office. EVER. Yeah that’s true really. The business has been told so many times by IT that it’s hard and technical work that they expect long delays on updates and when you push dates back they just accept it, so there’s really no one to actually answer to. I’m pretty sure my boss works less than I do, she doesn’t even attend half the meetings.

They do, but ammending the commit doesn't add a new commit. It's basically sending the server the same commit and pretending it's a new one (it's actually a new one because the timestamp changed, you will have to force push to overwrite the commit history). Try it, it's pretty reliable. Unless someone were to keep your branch locally and then checkout your new push as a new branch and then diff, they won't notice. Even if the pull they often get convoluted error messages saying that local and remote have diverged. If that happens, I tell them to just delete their local branch and check it out anew. It's honestly pretty fool proof. Maybe someone with actual git experience and who wants to flash you will notice, but other than that there's really no point. Of course, you have to have some game. If you talk to people like a complete sperg and can't white lie you're going to get caught eventually.

I unironically was asked once, and I got pulled in a meeting with architects on why I was squashing my commits as it wasn't something they saw usually. So I pulled all kinds of tweets and mailing list stuff from Linus Torvalds who recommends it, backing up my choices for a clean git history and so forth. These architects are really high level and they still think we use SVN or somethng so I even earned their respect by explaining it.

It's honestly just navigating through the web of people who can give you some sort of credit and trust and rolling along.

Correct, but you can test their limits little by little. Some employers might have a stats section that shows your comparison to other wagies. I've had 2-3 that did, even prior to coof. When you see your stats are TOO GOOD compared to the average, you know you have some wiggle room.

There is no pay cut, anon. And this policy will backfire on any company that does it because WFH is not going away. It doesn't matter where I live because everything is going remote anyway.

Most firms are WFH right now. Just grind it out in school and get associate positions, why are you paying for an education and wasting your time trying to find unrelated slack off work.

Thanks anon

You may have been partially joking but that's actually fucking brilliant. Is there anything that says you can't be employed full-time in 2 jobs at the same time? The last 2 weeks would just be 'offboarding' tasks anyway.

Yeah, and what do you do now? Some of us don't have a goldmine business idea right off the bat you know. In order to come up with money to fund your business ventures, often times you have to start out "working for someone else". Being employed doesn't mean you will be employed forever, you can still make it and actually learn and network, something a NEET or someone who swears off "working for someone else" forever would have a much more difficult time doing.

You're probably just a jealous faggot that doesn't get paid for 8 hours of work doing 1 hour of work like the rest of us workchads.

In addition, we can take the time we're stealing from our companies and use it to learn shit about investments, business, make stock/crypto trades/etc.

I bought a nice property on a lake and have been renovating it into an Airbnb while still raking in my Aerospace engineer salary.

This will be my 2nd Airbnb and it's very close to my existing one so I don't have any worries about the actual management of this new property when I launch it (which I had already automated anyway).

I've been able to learn learn some great new skills with my hands, work with my Dad on the weekends when he comes over to help, I'm expanding my business, increasing my income, and I just formally changed my position to permanently be WFH last week. Feels fucking good man.

>Forced to work remotely due to coronahoax, can't complain
>Was chill for a while where I had to only answer a few calls and tickets
>Eventually others started to return to the office while I was the last one working in remote helpdesk
>Work increased by a magnitude of a fuckton as I was the only one on helpdesk while others were busy doing projects and changing everything around, including superfluous stuff like network drive locations and user/group policies, increasing the amount of tickets/calls even more
>Bear in mind this is a small IT team with less than half a dozen employees offering support for a large company with literally thousands of employees
>Was ordered to return to work physically when this country decided to lift the lockdowns temporarily
>Quit my job without a notice

Zero regrets. I'm a NEET but I wouldn't mind finding a comfy WFH job if it's even possible now.

good. well fucking done. they SHOULD be punished for taking away maximum comfy from us. congrats anon. cant stand fucking penny pinching cheap ass employers who just expect you to break your back for them with no increae in pay as they refuse to hire more help that everyone knows they need

my last job did the same thing. 1 coworker quit, 1 got fired, office grew in size and they wouldnt fucking hire anyone else to help my department and expected me and 1 other dude to do everything which was already a full workload for 4 people

If they break it they buy it. Actually if they break anything I normally make money because I over-evaluate the cost.

However, each a year I have at most one bad guest. And I've gotten better at having them not book in the first place. Being a high-end place to stay on a lake means I avoid the kind of guests who would really cause any issues. I've thought about expanding to a ski resort or another lake but never to a major city for the reason you mentioned.

Work from home isn't fun it's just a more advanced slavery, keep everyone in a little box, make them pay for their own electricity and heat, no cute women to ogle, no bants with your co workers (at least I can get that here), but it feels so empty. No I'm not even a normalfag, I'm a social recluse, even I need something to weigh my alone time against

Thanks man, I agree fully, it was just too much bullshit for me to handle. A lot of unneeded stress and work. The ticket queue was flooded with tickets but I tried to do and finish as much as I could yet they presumed this was normal. They also expected me to write dozens of pages of detailed documentation on random services used in the company by contacting third-party companies within a short time frame. I was just confused why it was assigned to me and not the others. It really was a case of forcing you to overdeliver for little pay while they sit on their asses on other stuff and try to drown me in work. Was not comfy at all.
