The housing market is a fucking racket.WIth that said, you can join in on the fun, take out a loan for a house, fix it up, and sell it for $100k more. Pretty much what everyone else is doing, and is why houses are so expensive.I have no idea who is actually paying for these houses, though. I'm guessing everyone is just taking mortgages and die or either forclose before they fully pay it off. The average income in the US is like $70k. No way can most people actually afford to live in these big ass houses.

>>27779277There is enough rotting corpse of an infrastructure left for them to subdivide. The old blue collar neighborhood I grew up in full of modest single family homes has all but been completely bought up and the 3br houses modified into 3 unit apartments. Buildings that were built in the 30s for a few thousand dollars and are worth in nmodern clown world money “only” 70-100k are all bought up by boomers to rent out their self modified three units for 6-800$ per month + deposit and utilities.

>>27773687To add to that, they want to raise capital gains tax to pay for some of those projects. That means Millennial and Zoomer’s retirement is keked and if you thought you could get a leg up with crypto, ha! Crypto is now considered real estate now. Roth your retirement, young anons, and invest in foreign/emerging markets.
>>27773847Houses aren't just risk assets and equities though, and viewing them as such is what causes the dysfunction in the housing market. They have utility, and all those "investments" are living expenses for a homeowner. If housing prices crashed to zero it would unironically be good thing for everyone except bankers and boomers leveraging their house because now other people would HAVE A PLACE TO LIVE.
Okay bros, let's say I'm a remote freelancer. I can go anywhere in the fucking world, but I'm a big retard and I've only lived within a 30-mile radius of my neighborhood for 28 years. Unless you own multiple properties the growth in value of your house is irrelevant. You need a place to live and if you sell your house for a 300% profit you will still need to buy a new one that has also increased in value at roughly the same rate, resulting in no net gain

>>27779452Look at the price history, it was $40K, the bank is just desperate to get out now
>>27768208The cost of living within or even close to major cities basically negates any extent of income with exorbitant expenses. Someone living in NYC making $300k a year is probably the absolute middle of the middle class relatively, and probably only takes home $20k (if they’re lucky) after rent, taxes, and basic expenses are factored in. They’re a scam for affluent hipster millennials who want an “authentic” city experience like they see in Friends or something. If you don’t have inherited property, are not a CEO, or not some Wall Street big shot: then it’s not even worth the toil.
>>27785157If any legislation were introduced to prohibit it, you bet your ass the Twitter Liberals would chime in about it being racist and denying mexicans the ability to get out of their shitty third world country, except now American investors are buying homes in Mexico too. >retards in this thread thinking boomers will pass on their houses They will reverse mortgage them until they die, or their houses will be liquidated to cover massive end of life medical bills. >>27786711This. Already know several boomers that reversed mortgaged their house as a retirement so they can keep jerking off in their RV trailers traveling to the exact same places every year, leaving their kids jack shit.
>>27765352The crash won't be in housing it's going to be in the currency. The money printers have inflated everything since 2008 at an increasing rate. This example seems particularly egregious, I suspect the house has been improved substantually since. However the markets and the fed printers are eerily similar in their increases. It's the illusion of growth that our institutions are built on.
>>27787035Wouldn't a currency crash increase the value of property? This is what people seem to be getting wrong this time arround.>inb4 my corona mortgage deferment The banks will swoop in and gobble up homes for pennies on the dollar before retail buyers have any chance
>>27786615>>27786708The fact of the matter is those are both extremely bullish indicators and should be a sign to get into Boise real estate ASAP, especially with how quickly west coast development moves.>>27786711I found out the other day that apparently my grandmother really really wants to reverse mortgage but hasn't because she wants me to inherit it. I'm conflicted because on the one hand it makes absolute financial sense for them to reverse mortgage it. The taxes are insane, they're in massive debt, they don't have the need nor the desire to own such a large place, and they're only like 70. DESU, I wouldn't even have much use for it. I don't live in that city (although I wouldn't be opposed to living there) and the house's layout is weird so you really only end up getting two bedrooms out of the place which is....not enough. There is a lot of land to work with for expansions but at that point it seems like it would defeat the cost savings of inheriting a house. That said I am also a selfish motherfucker that really wants that fucking house. I've decided if they ever ask me directly I'll tell them they can sell it but for now I'm just going to pretend I don't know that they want to sell. Does that make me a bad person? What would you do /biz/bros?
