So two scenarios
1. They somehow covered a lot on one of the worst sell-offs. Not sure how this is probably, and if the short rate was 266% of the stock (which FINRA indicates it was as of end of Jan), the volume was nowhere near enough for them to cover their shorts

2. They shorted more on the way down over the past few days, underestimating the diamond hands of ape traders. If this is the case, which I presume it likely is, the squeeze is gonna be a big ole boner squeeze.

One thing I don't understand is why IBKR short interest fees keep dropping. But I also don't understand why the stock still isn't available for short. I get the feeling they're stepping up to the plate to help their hedgie friends -- they did limit share purchases on Thursday for the memes, after all.
