It's a more socially acceptable investment. Risk averse people make decisions based on the fear of embarrassment. If they lose money on an investment it's more noble to have lost it on a bad real estate investment versus buying an unknown crypto with a funny name. It's the same psychology of having a safe corporate job at a big company versus starting your own company or working for a small startup. The social pressure is even more substantial if they have a family they're expected to provide for.
