it went from 400 to 200 which is where it had been for a fucking year prior to the squeeze also the market conditions were completely different.

there was no billion player prisoner's dillema. a lot of the company was owned by index funds obligated to hold because it was part of the DAX. and porsche had stealthily increased it's stake in the company to over 50% over the course of that year because they wanted to take over VW.
porsche and index funds are literal hardwired "diamond hands" because the funds don't have anyone at the sell button to sell and porsche was buying for control over the actual company not it's stock price so they weren't going to sell.
after porsche announced they owned 55% of VW (which they did on a sunday) shorts woke up and realized only 1% of shares were freely trading and shit themselves and panic bought whatever they could at whatever price they could.
