XRP will not be implemented in flames. When the market is going haywire, bank projects freeze and they Barton down the hatches (mainly due to senior decision makers being pulled away to deal with more immediate issues). Switching over to an XRP based settlement system will happen in calm times**. I also don’t see the GME thing being anywhere near big enough to put much of a dent in the market itself (at worst one or two banks will have to wear a maximum of maybe 12bn loss, but that’s within tolerance).

Where the GME thing will be far more felt I think is regulation. It’s going to be fascinating to see whether and/or how hard they try to shut down retail going forward.

Also - I’m in finance and know BR well (my wife worked there for a while). They’re a good shop and will probably be my first port of call after moon.

The idea of XRP is for users to be in and out in seconds, so you wouldn’t need a valuation equal to 6trn to handle 6trn. You’d need a fraction of that, though would need that fraction to account for growth and for the fact that certain times of day see far more transfers than others.

In order to handle the full $22trn of daily cross border transactions (which will include a significant portion of the FX, and would include all derivatives between cross border entities), I worked $100-120 (allowing 10-12trn of liquidity at any one time). It’s possible that one single bank was lending to them, which would see that single bank take a pretty significant loss (in the multiple billions), but most large US banks could weather that right now. If it’s a euro bank, they’d likely be fucked though (and then we may have issues!). Though even then, BRRD rules have dampened the risk of contagion from a bank collapse.
