No normies
Do not link to the thread directly in ess em gee
Best way to get others to come in is to simply say, come to /cmg/, the newfags won't know this.

CCJ is decent but their marketcap is way bigger and they just closed down one of their mines due to (((covid))). they're a much larger operation. 4U has more potential to reach the marketcap of CCJ due to their rare earth plays (monazite [helium extraction], vanadium [used fo spaceships], etc), which would put it at $42 (assuming they don't raise which they might). so even with conservative estimates of potential stock growth, 4U is a $20 stock AT LEAST.

Why are people so mad? GME was all about fundamentals. Just let hedge funds be wrong.
The only feasible fix is actually limits on how much leverage hedge funds can use. Not limits on retail. But if you did that nobody would be able to arbitrage pennies at 20x leverage and we kind of need people doing that to keep liquidity high and smooth out big movements.

How do you legally define retail in ways that could be enforced by the SEC and brokerages in such situations? It would be entirely arbitrary. They would and should rightly get push back for such blatant hostility against anything non-institutional.

The last two major crashes (2007/8, 2020) have stemmed, to a large degree, from over-levered institutionals making risky trades under the assumption of low volatility, and their failure (and bailouts) have costed retail (and taxpayers) massively. Why is it an issue now when retail decides to exploit structural issues in markets, collective analysis, or whatever other information they can get their hands on, to similarly make their trades a little more intelligently, or risky, etc.? Is it just because it goes against the institutional grain? So?

Some other important factors.

ZIRP means companies can coast off basically free debt forever. Look at Netflix. They use debt to make shitty shows. Then they shady accounting to say those shitty shows will make them lots of money over time. This inflates their value, which allows them to take on more free debt and repeat the cycle. The amount of corporate debt and shadow debt is insane.

The second is it drives people into stocks. People are poor as shit so consumer spending won't get you a return. You can't by bonds because yields are shit unless you buy dogshit bonds. Junk bonds have historic low rates. What this means is if you want a return, you basically have to put your money into stocks. And not just stocks in general - the small handful of stocks that actually drive growth. Compare the top 6 stocks in SPY to the rest. All the gains are coming from a handful of tickers people are piling into.

This is why the market surged during covid. Not because of economic recovery, but because rich people/institutions needed to put money somewhere and stocks were basically the only option.

They could limit the buying and selling of short dated options to people with an account size greater than 25k, similar to the day trading rule. I'm not supporting this, I just see both sides of the argument and I understand why even a lot of retail investors are pissed off at the greater theme of fundamentals no longer mattering and the stock market being treated even more like a casino. I agree with Chamath that there needs to be greater transparency across the board to stop everyone including short sellers from having crazy overleveraged positions and creating an opportunity like this but he is wrong to equate the recent action with scalping for profit or basic momentum trading, it's a million person strong pump and dump that is affecting stocks that didn't have very high short interest.

I think there should be a clear distinction here between growth in share price and organic growth in the company's net revenue/market share, etc. Because it's easy to achieve the former through buybacks using cheap debt without achieving the latter. And that, in itself, creates a risk, like we saw last year. TINA only works until it doesn't. This is the result. Is it wrong, right? Who cares, it's the market.

>What's the difference between a large number of retail investors pooling assets to achieve similar market-moving capability that institutionals have?
In this case? The sheer scale of it, they pumped over 10 billion dollars into stocks that would otherwise be declining to worthlessness. We've had short squeezes before, but most of them had other factors like VW itself buying back tons of shares that weren't available. Good momentum trading isn't absent of fundamentals, a lot of momentum is because of a fundamental shift in the business.

They have every right to do it and you have every right to pile on if you want to buy GME for $300, hell we know that the rest of Wall Street did as well, but this is basically a mania and it no longer even reflects the original idea behind it because most of the shorts covered and it's reaching stocks that didn't have short interest high enough to cause something like this even if a great fundamental shift happened.

GME's the big mystery. The fact that it has been relatively stable today and holding high means this isn't over. Memes aside, this stock is worth less than $40 and has been pumped up by stupid hedge funds taking leveraged bets against it in a stupid way.

So the big question now is how does this play out. Does GME erode slowly, or all at once? Why isn't it dumping more? A major factor is what happens Friday when contracts close.
