If you want to be more next to the growing tech industry and "hustle and bustle" then the seacoast, like Portsmouth is probably the best area.
Lot's of places to be if you're more interested in rural living. The north is nice, but it does get quite a bit colder for longer up there, but good if you like skiing or whatever. The western half of the state is more rural and the property taxes aren't quite as high depending. Good state overall.

This has always been the case, that a government will act entitled to whatever you have and will take it, no problem.
I think on a deeper level, it has to do with idealized misconceptions of democracy and republics on a practical level. if you think about it, any republic with any sort of social ideal will gradually turn toward socialism and communism (the ultimate form of government control and entitlement) because of the simple noral ideal that a government should work for the people.
