>price of everything has been steadily increasing while the minimum wage has remained the same anyway.
Now see what happens when the min.wage doubles in most states. I noticed socialists use a lot of anecdotes to make it look like $15 min.wage is fine, for example some guy running a flower shop "pay my employees $20/hr and we're fine!!." The problem with these anecdotes are from businesses that can afford to pay more than minimum wage.

These anecdotes never come from actual businesses that requires dozens or hundreds of grunt work, such as warehouse or ground jobs that form the backbone and foundation of a lot of industries. When their uneducated work suddenly gets paid double, the effects on expenses and prices will rise upwards like a slowly rolling massive snowball, and you'll first notice when your bushel of spinach suddenly goes up 10 cents, then 20 cents, and then 30 cents in a rate never seen before.

Arguing whether even uneducated high-effort-low-intelligence work deserves $15/hr is a debate for another time. You're talking about the effects on prices so here is my argument.

When government jobs pay double than a lot of work, then it won't be a job of last resort. Instead, lots of low income people will swarm to it. When the nation's largest employer is the government, the economy is fucked. This is a symptom of a lot of economically failed totalitarian states in history.

It will be an endless downward spiral of a nation kicking a can down the road by creating jobs out of thin, hot air through taxes and printing money. In addition, totalitarian states love being a large employer as being the people's means of not starving = total control of the population.

One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McDonald's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".
Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs.

I don't oppose the concept completely. I'm just afraid that such a program will bloat into something too big for its own good, like most government programs that bloats into a tax-money black hole.

Because government is a massive employer, and because the government runs things, nobody actually checks on how the government spends or check on what they are doing with the money. Also goverment contracting is one of the most corrupt institutions in the nation, where a single project would take forever and cost 2-3x normal cost because it involved a lot of random ass contractors. It will be like the $2 million public bathroom in NYC, but nationwide.

Most policy over the past 50 years has had the effect of crushing everyone below the upper middle class, the only reason minimum wage is an issue is because that is the kind of job that a ton of people are now working to live on as opposed to being a entry level wage. So yeah sure the wage is probably too low, but generally price controls cause unintended consequences and I suspect minimum wage would be just the same. For example it would most likely either have an effect on employment or prices, both of which disproportionately effect different groups. If there is less employment it hurts the people it was meant to help (since they now work less hours for the same compensation in the end), if prices go up, that is like a soft tax on the consumers (middle class) who are then getting further squeezed down into poverty. In this sense a minimum wage is like a band aid solution that doesn't fix the endemic issues that are causing wage suppression at the bottom end of employment.

Isnt minimum wage based off of local prices then lowered a bit?
$15 in new york has different purxhasing power than say Appalachia where its the poorest communities in the country. Why is there so much push for federal supremacy when states should have power to control their internal affairs based off the 10th amendment. One could even further argue that by nationally raising tge wage it will directly affect surrounding states, inciting the interstate commerce clause.

if the minimum wage creates prosperity for all why stop at 15
sky is limit i say raise it to 10.000 per hour, we are printing money now anyways so its just a number right

this was to illustrate that when big banks get trillions nobody bats an eyelid, but when ordinary people get peanuts everybody is in an uproar
the sheep can be sheered as long as they can keep up with the joneses and fight amongst themselves
nothing will be fixed unless there is a return to sound money, otherwise inflation will always outrun wages no matter when random number you pick as mandated minimum wage

>> No.26381633

I was wondering about this. If minimum is raised to $15, won’t everything just get more expensive? Thereby anyone making let’s say $15.50 prior to the raise is now broke? I ask because I don’t know this shit.

Anyone making 15$/hr right now, in a job more specialized than burger flipping will have the power to say "well fuck you boss, I can make the same money at McDonalds and I can get a job there today" and bosses will cave and give them the 20 or 25$.

This is the tide lifting all the boats kind of situation.

If you're not making solid six figures, in a legitimate 9 to 5 job, not shitcoin gambling, you have nothing to lose.

min wage should be relative to the employer and increase/decrease to mirror how much profit the employer makes each year. It should be law and any greedy mother fucker employer who is caught trying to go around this will be shot on the spot

why would you need minimun wage if you have basic income? it's more efficient to remove minimum wage and move that weight to taxes to fund basic income.
