Am I crazy for thinking that the only coins anyone should hold is BTC and ETH? I understand Link, I just don't understand why it has any value. Surely businesses will just bypass Link entirely once smart contracts become mainstream

BYC and ADA I have no faith in ETH.

ETH has been producing stronger YOY returns, but largely follows BTC's market trends. Investing in one is like investing in the other. You do either BTC OR ETH, but not both.

Smart contracts literally don't exist without Link...

Incorrect. You split depending on your ability for the market to absorb your position.

>companies will just bypass the source of data for their smart contract

Ah yes, a digital signature on a blank piece of paper. Why didn't I think of this? LINKIES BTFO

It's more the fact that link simply uses the ETH network and needs ETH to be useful. ERC 20 shitcoins are fine as far as catching crazy pumps and dumps go, but they lack the fundamentals to ever be a long term threat to the top 2. The only thing that will ever be a threat is if someone makes their own network.

There are other worthwhile projects but everything beyond BTC just adds on additional risk but also has potentially higher upside. It all depends how far down the risk/reward spectrum you wanna go.
