I was waiting for $0.1 to turn my 10k stack into a 100k stack. I just capitulated. Sold all my UNI and almost all my ETH to buy 90k GRT in at $0.43. I am calm now, I will delegate my 100k right away and I suddenly don't care what the price is anymore, just that I have my 100k stack and how many GRT I can earn by delegating. If it crashes to $0.3 no regrets, I won't care what the price is for a few years. If it crashes to $0.1 I'll just buy another 100k with the remaining ETH.

Blockchains are also free to access but to find what you need you require indexes, like The Graph. However, because mostly smart contracts and bots need to query the blockchains, they can't pay by consuming ads.
Instead The Graph has created a token for micropayments. A smart contract pays a very small amount in GRT to run a query. Thus there is demand for GRT by the smart contracts.
Furthermore, the graph network, which does the indexing and takes payment in GRT from the smart contracts, is now becoming decentralized. It used to be that the company behind this all ran the indexing service, but now anyone can start indexing the blockchain and start earning GRT. To do so, you need to "stake" GRT, that is you put up a certain amount of GRT as collateral as a way to prove you are trustworthy, creating yet more demand for GRT.
Finally, if you are not a technical person who wants to run an indexer service, you can just buy some GRT on an exchange such as Coinbase and send it to someone who does run an indexing node. They will pool your GRT with their collateral, making for a more trustworthy service that gets more customers, and you will get a cut of the GRT that the indexer earns from the smart contract queries. Doing this is called "delegating" your GRT and so delegation creates yet more demand for GRT.
Together, it becomes like if people payed parts of cents for googling (instead of watching ads), and you could invest in google servers and get a cut of those cents.
