any real world /biz/nessmen here have experience creating products? everyone on this site expects me to have a prototype already created. So where exactly do I go to make a prototype?

hey btw can you recommend any good free cad software? preferable ones that are commonly used for manufacturing?

sorry bro, not sure. protolabs is just a place i've drove past on the highway a few times lol

oh what the your physically near them? wow

check out vendors in china who sell similar shit you're looking to develop... most are factories selling direct. contact them and take it from there. Its how I got my own private label product on amazon.

>> No.26049161

>>26049087
I did that but when I described what type of product I wanted to make they would ask for things like documents, picture, or a physical product. I got the impression this was how they all operate but are there some that will make you something based on descriptions?

Replying here
Just contract your idea out to a CAD designer desu. You'll be slow and ineffective. They will be fast, make it look to your liking, and have the software already.

If you don't know what you're doing with CAD you're going to have a bad time.

Protolab is alright. What type of prototype do you need?
Functioning product representative design? Bullshit SLS/SLA that maybe doesn't work?
I'd you need functional product representative design you'll want to look at soft tooling injection molded parts. I'd make sure your idea is feasible in cheap fast bullshit like SLS first

t. product design engineer for a bigger name in consumer products

>Protolab is alright. What type of prototype do you need?
I guess it would depend on if the manufacturer can make a real working product based on a non working prototype. If thats the case I guess that would be the best method since its presumably cheaper.

Don’t make a new custom product through Alibaba, OP. Chinks can’t be trusted and will rip off your shit and sell it for less. I only use baba to private label existing goods.

where is a better place to find manufacturers then? also how can I be sure THEY won't rip me off? aren't ncc and legal fees kinda expensive?

wrong, their latest shit makes it harder on free users, may aswell learn freecad or just pirate solidworks

>> No.26049974

Its doable but expensive, and you'll get charged thousands in extras when they fuck it up on purpose and you have to get new molds made. Private labeling is way easier/cheaper, and no one wants to buy 5000 of something for a bulk price, so its not even unethical. You can use that to build up capital and lay the foundations of a brand, then start having your own products developed once you actually have revenue

Join the EAA (experimental aircraft association). It's $40 a year and it gives you a subscription to SolidWorks along with other shit you probably don't care for unless you're into aviation. Totally worth it

You can’t be sure of anything nigger. Also idk the best place as I don’t make original goods, I just rebrand existing shit with slight improvements.

you're gonna get ripped off either way if you're product is good. I wouldn't worry so much about this desu, it won't be possible for you to reach everyone anyways with any marketing you'll be capable of pulling off.

ok but once I have revenue where do I go to get them made?

>> No.26050279

Find a company that already does what you want to do and go to import genius and find out what factories they use in China. Then send emails to the Chinese sales folks and they will accommodate and look for much good cooperation.

Not sure what type of product you're wanting but they are asking for either a CAD drawing, a photo render of what you're wanting, or a crude physical device of what you're wanting. Hate to say it but things aren't always as easy as just wishing. You gotta apply effort.
