IB doesn't let you do that in a cash account or TFSA (or at least that's what my friend who has IB told me), only on margin accounts

wanted to switch over my TFSA into IB but that was a deal breaker for me. I'll just max out my TFSA first with my bank (no monthly inactivity fee either) and then open a margin account with IB later on

The only good thing about canadian brokerage account, is to have an easy access to both the american and the canadian market. It’s easier for a Canadian to have access to the american stock market, than the opposite.
