I made 2000 euros/mo these last few years, I was in the army and didnt live with my parents and I wouldnt even live with them anyway, I spent the weekends there sometimes but they constantly were nagging. Yes. Father passed some years ago. Mother got made redundant during COVID. I now pay for all of the rent and an additional £150 on top every month. NGL, it's kind of annoying. I got a promotion from working really hard and I think my mother just figured that I can afford it now, so when people were up for redundancies at her workplace, she didn't even try to keep her job. When telling me about how the process went, she told me some nonsense about how she complained about "not wanting to work with X" or "I can't do this because Y", basically primed herself as the top candidate to get made redundant, very likely deliberately. She isn't bothering to look for a new job either. The government pays her for 50% of the rent toward the place we're in and she gets unemployment too, I don't know how much that totals to, but I feel like I'm certainly over paying. I've tried to raise it with her a number of times, but she just starts to raise her voice and get hysterical and makes the conversation completely untenable. It's really a super gay tactic because I can't stand it when raises her voice and just splurts out nonsense, I immediately just walk away. I have no idea how much she's actually getting a month or where it's going, I'd like to think she's saving it, she's always been pretty good with saving money. Although it is undoubtedly annoying that a majority percentage of the extra money I got from my promotion is just going to her, and that despite her getting 50% of the rent, I'm paying for all of it and then some on top too, she has been a really amazing mother to me over my life and has always supported me during some really bad times. Living at home is based, assuming there is enough room in the house to retreat to if needed. My sister lived at home till 30 and bought the house of the neighbours so we more often than not still eat all together. Why would I prefer to be alone paying rent when I can do anything I want at home. I moved out after college and I was happy to do it because I couldn't stand living at home in jew york city. Theoretically there are obvious financial synergies that exist from living at home into your 20s but in practice I've noticed that most of my friends who still live at home have nothing to show for it and their lives are essentially unchanged from high school, some of them have "money saved" (in a savings account) but they dont even talk about buying a home or utilizing it in any way, they are just existing. Also the multi generational family thing is not an argument unless you are married and having children, and in American society no worthwhile woman will marry you if you haven't demonstrated the ability to put a roof over your own head.
