Everything that can be outsourced has been outsourced. But now, lots of jobs that were thought to require a body have been shown to be easily transitioned to remote work. What does that mean? Lots more candidates for outsourcing.

5 years of professional experience, and a few additional years on a hobbyist level. No degree.

My best tip is to always be hustling and keep an eye on technology trends so you can stay ahead of the curve (languages that are getting popular, tech stacks that are getting hot at startups etc.). Contrary to popular belief there are a lot of brainlets in this industry and it is trivial to outplay them as they usually have their head so far up their ass they cannot adapt to change as quickly as autists on 4chan and are more focused on nerdcred than actual business value.

I work in meme fintech and while that is somewhat better it is still essentially a satellite industry of traditional finance and staffed to the brim with numales and arrogant fucks who pretend they are being revolutionary when all they are doing is just building regular financial products with cool UX/UI. Don't get into IT mate, that's my honest advice. When the VC bubble explodes these extreme comp schemes are going to evaporate as quickly, and unfortunately there is ZERO career progression in this profession. You max out at around £200k and the only way you can get more is if you are hyper-specialised in something and can contract for £1,000 per day or get into management, and because we are in the EU boomer executives will never ever promote you into senior management at established companies, so your only real option is to start your own thing/company.

It's getting harder and harder to break into software by the day. In my opinion the only way to truly make it in software regardless if its fintech or something else is that you need to truly, unironically, and unequivocally be passionate and autistic about it. If you cannot see beauty in code and be willing to learn about cool new shit on a daily/weekly basis you are unfortunately going to be left behind. It's harsh and unfortunate but that's the way it is, this industry isn't for everyone.

If you feel like you have talent for it then try creating and publishing some projects on Github and move up from there, but I cannot understate the importance of you enjoying it, because if you force yourself you will eventually end up burnt out and suicidal.

You need to just get in at the bottom, once you've got a big bulge bracket bank (JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs) or hedge fund/HFT firm (Citadel, Jane Street) on your CV, moving elsewhere becomes much easier and people will pay you because they think you must be good.
My advice:
1. Go on HackerRank or whatever and work through literally every algorithms/data structures and language specific problem for your language.
2. Apply for jobs, call up recruiters and give them your CV
3. Do as many interviews as you can at smaller places even if you have no interest in them - some of the smartest people I know still fuck up due to lack of prep/interview experience
4. Read some finance books, at least understand the basics of equities/bonds/commodities and how they trade

But as others have said working in tech in financial services is shit for most people, don't expect to feel like you've made it when you hit 100k, it will just make the work slightly more bearable.

What do frens

I'm currently working part time doing some shitty web app, I've probably worked less than 10 hrs / week last couple of months but before I was doing legit 60 hours workweeks. The project just doesn't interest me anymore, I'm pretty sure it's going to fail and they'll somehow put the blame on me since I'm the only one actually coding. For this 2021 I
wanted to get a full time at home job in a big tech company, but fear that it'll be worse. I live in a 3rd world country so my current job pays literally less than 500 USD a month, a normal to high full time would pay around 2k/month. That's also a reason I've been working less and less. Should I start applying for a higher pay job and upgrade my wagie status? Should I do a masters? Should I just take a couple months off and just fuck hoes or try to get a gf? Should I keep my boring part time job? What would you do in my situation

Even if I’m asked to come back to the office I’ll send an email to the boss and request further WFH privledges, as in my bosses own words he’s been “impressed” with how well I’ve done. I’ve worked maybe 10 hrs a week since March. Spending time in an office would simply be a prison sentence when I can get 40 hrs of work done in 10.

Have a wonderful Tuesday bros, keep it cool.

You are vastly underestimating how valuable competency is. Many of the people replying have likely become indispensable in their jobs. Even in they spend 90% of their time jerking off, they are still more valuable to the company than a wagie that works really hard but doesn't know shit about the processes that actually matter for the functioning of their company.

The trick is to not literally do nothing, but only the bare minimum requirements at the last minute. The rest of the time is spent however you please. Anyone above you has nothing to complain about if all they see is the work they request being done.

24 year old wagecuck, $34k salary working 40hr/wk in nyc here.

Growing up around literal crack addicts I didn't have such high aspirations myself. Took a job at a high end restaurant straight out of community college and moved out with a friend. I live pretty comfortably despite circumstances because I started investing small savings in 2017.

I've tried learning Java, python, even C++ and came to the conclusion coding isn't for me. What other skills can I learn online that will make me more employable for a WFH position? Aiming for at least $50k-$60k salary. Any advice is appreciated.

After you work for a while you get moved from hourly to salary. On salary it's your projects that matter, not your time. If you work hard 24/7 but can't deliver on your projects you'll get fired and if you goof off all day but spend some time at the last minute getting your project stood up then you'll get more money and promotions.
