Sup bizbros I need career advice.. I make just $60k/yr working remote FT for a small software company in Jersey. This is shit pay considering I've got 2-3 years experience and should be making closer to 80k at least. I've already asked for a raise and no luck.

Basically I'm having trouble motivating myself to get a new job because this job is SUPER comfy. My day is literally waking up at 9, doing 30 minutes of easy work on my laptop from my bed, taking a daily standup zoom meeting for an hour (on mute), then absolutely fucking nothing all day. No messages, no emails, other meetings.

If I searched for a new job I'd have to make a new portfolio and build a bunch of fucking projects to showcase from scratch. Take like 2-4 weeks

Though with a new job, I'll get an extra grand or two at most in my pocket per month- which is nice but I don't really need the money.. I'd just buy moar crypto with it.

Should I get a new job or ride this comfy wave until we're forced to go back in the office and Im forced to get a better job

its not just 2-4 weeks. The new job could potentially be a daily bitch dealing with managers, emails, other bullshit. this is max comfy anon. MAX

It doesn't have to be another tech job. I know FAANG software engineers who got part time jobs throwing luggage around at the airport to get extra cash and free flights. You could also do something like teach English online. Or whatever, depends on what you're interested in.

>> No.25862574

>>25862418

yea don't get two FT jobs. you could get away with it but personally I don't think it's worth it. you could easily do a side hustle of something you like though (e.g. web dev or whatever) while "at work."

also re: having to do more work at a new job -- yeah that's definitely possible. but if it's a job you like it'd be worth it, so only do it if you think you can find a job where you'd really like what you do or would look amazing on resume. otherwise, keep what you have and just keep investing. my 2c

this is a good answer anon, thank you. The idea of some faggot boomer bossing me around so I can make peanuts compared to crypto gains is laughable at this point and has changed me

>> No.25862707

just go full time crypto and cash in your wagecuck paychecks on the side. depending on your how much your stack is you can be financially free if you play your cards right this year

Sounds very nice
> I'll get an extra grand or two at most in my pocket per month
If you don't plan on increasing your living expenses in the near future, this money could SPEED up your investment gains. Putting it into a 3-5 mid to low cap stock you expect to increase can really allow you to be very wealthy within 10-15 years.
>don't really need the money.. I'd just buy moar crypto with it
Not a bad idea. I'd personally diversify with regular stocks as well and consistently buy more every month.

>Should I get a new job or ride this comfy wave until we're forced to go back in the office and Im forced to get a better job
I don't know your industry's job market, but I would say that it sounds like you know you've hit a road bump in upward mobility in your current job.
I'd advise one of two options
>1) stay in your job—but on the side work on increasing your credentials, get more certifications for your field that would provide upward mobility, etc
You're getting paid to do nothing basically now, so why not get yourself tangible badges that you will soon use when you look for a higher paying new job? You're at a massive advantage compared to someone else who has to work a lot yet wants to find a higher paying job too.
You should take full advantage of that.
>2) immediately start building that resume and plan on reinvesting the new income into your investment portfolio
Not much to say about this one.

Of these two options, I would suggest staying with your current job to pick up some certifications that would help you reach even higher positions a few years down the line. It's a long term investment that I think would pay off. Getting certs or something equivalent for your field shouldn't take more than 3-4 months max. And it can pay off immensely in the short and especially the long term. You would also be able to get a six figure salary sooner too, if I were to guess.

Yeah. I think OP would have more to do more work, no matter what new position he gets. But if he plays it right with investments, he can retire much sooner.

I had a peak cozy job, like you described, for years. I did a lot of side hustles and tried out a lot of small biz ideas. Like you I found the best returns from trading, which took a while to get good at, but I eventially used months of my free time learning. I was at a position where I could take huge risks gambling, and made huge returns as a result. My thinking was, I will always have this steady 60k income job to fall back on. In 2019 I was pretty much handed an offer for a job that pays 92k and I took it and I MISS THE COZY JOB. Now I'm micromanaged. Per-hour actually worked I make much less, and I'm paying MORE TAXES. I don't qualify for gibs. Higher in rank but still far from the top. I basically feel like a sucker and I'm strategizing my way out.

If only i had taken those blackpills earlier. Income from wagecucking has diminishing returns. Personally for my state I think the ideal is around 70k. That's a take home of about 58k after tax. This year I watched my former cozyworkers get trumpbux, Rent assistance from the state, utilities and childcare gibs from the city&county, 2nd stimulus, and more. I'm paying at least 30k in taxes.

Of course it's a gamble. Imagine for example a cozy job at 120k per year. That's what I'm after now. Overseas, tax exempt, all expenses paid, 9 months in Afghanistan.

On e the economy opens back up, salaries are going to drop like a rock FYI

People who aren't micromanaging themselves and building valuable skillets the past year during the lockdown are going to eat shit, everybody else will be fighting for a livable salary working 9-5 at the office

Yes. Its a fat white balding boomer. Been in the same position for 20 years. Clueless about life, priorities, etc.

OP if you haven't read this Gervais Principle series yet, I recommend it:
https://www.ribbonfarm.com/2009/10/07/the-gervais-principle-or-the-office-according-to-the-office/

Its a good read and gives you perspective on wagecucking dynamics. TLDR in jobs there are 3 groups, Losers, Clueless, and Sociopaths. Most of us on biz probably fit as "losers", which is not meant in a derogatory way, but rather we realize that wagecucking is a BAD deal, and we want to contribute minimal effort and take pleasure from life outside of the workplace. Clueless are loyal to the job, work hard, without realizing the bad bargain. I was pulled into a job designed for clueless people. If you consider taking a new higher paying job, definitely do some recon to discern whether its a fit for a clueless boomer, and avoid if so.
