1. Buy a Kindle Oasis
2. Get an Amazon Prime subscription
3. Start checking out eBooks from your local library
4. Go on a one-week digital detox. No internet, no 4chan, especially no news, no porn. Nothing. Only thing you'll do during this week is reading books and working out. Work or study the bare minimum, the rest of your time is reading books or getting /fit/. https://yuki.la/fit/44873326

Never pirate books, either buy them or borrow them. This limited mentality will coerce you to take books seriously and to read them. You can also get the Kindle app on your phone and read books while you take a dump in the toilet for example. Stop wasting all your time on 4chins and news. You'll quickly realize how meaningless fluff the content on these websites really are.

You don't have to give up 4chan, you see me posting here don't you. But I get 80% of the "entertainment" I get from 4chan by only having to spend 20% of what I previously spent here. You can do the same.

Invest in yourself. Start reading.

I also recommend getting a Kindle Oasis for many reasons all around. You spend a hefty amount so you're again coerced to use it. Also many library ebooks allows you to download straight to your Kindle, very nice feature without having to fumble around with different eBook formats and the like.

Anything that interests you and is relatively easy to read since your brain is most likely fried from dopamine overdose, I recommend getting an Amazon Prime subscription since there are many books you can check out for free. I read a variety of nonfiction and fiction books. Some examples are "Robber Barons," "University of Berkshire Hathaway," and "The Kremlin Conspiracy." All three books should still be free on Amazon Prime. Another good one to read (although a bit dense) is 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Currently, I'm reading up on real estate and an autobiography of Da Vinci by Walter Issacson.

Lit and phil major here. Download a copy of The Presocratics by Wheelwright, read a handful of Platonic dialogues and some Aristotle, and then you are free to jump around a good deal. Reading Plotinus would be intelligent if you cared to read medieval philosophy, though. As far as literature goes, read literally any collection of classics (Aeschylus, Homer, Dante, Shakespeare) and then a book of criticism by Burke or Frye, and you are now more educated than all the braindead fucks I have to share my major with.

Hello, young anon. Excellent question.

I suggest you read "Ham on Rye" by Charles Bukowski. The man was a miserable degenerate, but you can learn something from his drunken musings.

Also, "Hear of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad. Brilliant novella (<200 pages) that was the basis for "Apocalypse Now". Essentially a tale about man's hubris, breaking down of distinctions between upper and lower class in an anarchic setting, etc. Incredible writing, you'll love it.

Good luck, young man. Keep studying and thinking like this, and you'll make it.

>Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs
>American Psycho
>The Most Beautiful Woman in Town & Other Stories

These three books got me back into reading for fun when I was in college.

Hell's Angels is great if you're interested in the subject matter or drugs (there is a section that takes place at a Ken Kesey acid test party)

American Psycho is extremely funny. This was the first time I ever laughed out loud while reading

The Most Beautiful Woman in Town & Other Stories. /lit/ shits on Bukowski a lot, but they can be pseudos on occasion. I imagine you like fucked up stuff (you are on 4chan) so you should enjoy this. Some beautiful short stories, some really funny short stories, and some really fucked up ones. The way Bukowski writes makes you want to read line after line after line. And since they are short stories, it makes the book easier to read in pieces.

Haven't read Ham on Rye yet but I just recently read Post Office by Bukowski and loved it.

It's hard to explain what was captivating about the book. The language is so plain but distills depression/detachment to its pure form without ever being obvious in its intent. I don't know how he pulled that off.

If you've read both, how does Ham on Rye compare to Post Office?
