Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized p2p privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT (hidden tx amounts) ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with the proof of the transactions being possible by a Monero user willingly providing a view key for a specific transaction if needed.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of the current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of txs goes higher. Further, the mining network algorithm Random X establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in May 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a Monero Chad will be with you shortly.

Can anyone name any real cons to this coin? I have dipped in and out of crypto since 2016 and I feel I have missed the boat as far as getting in early enough on BTC to make a profit. Bitcoin still has a long bright future but Monero seems it is starting to get mainstream now. Thinking about going in for the long hold on this one, with a small percentage in btc or anything else.

>> No.25781028

>>25780835
The real cons, for me as an American, already exist and are priced in. That being the coin not listed directly on some of the easy exchanges (like Coinbase) and will probably be regulated more and more as the IRS realizes they can't trace the transactions. (I believe they still have an open bounty for someone bringing them a tracing solution that works). So, like any other coin, regulations are the only con.
However, XMR already has solutions for this in place. You can use Bisq and other DEX's to trade it still without regulator scrutiny and Atomic Swaps coming in the next few years to make it even easier to go from BTC <-> XMR. While XMR could miss out on a huge bull run today, we will surely inch higher and higher over time. It's a comfy hold. To crazy moons. No stiff losses. Accumulate. DCA. And hold on tight, this is gonna be an enjoyable ride.

tldr; the future is bright for XMR.

I agree with you, but I also believe if the US government took action, it would only boost the price and popularity among criminals and people wanting to hide money in general. Alot of people are aware of xmr already, but that kind of attention would bring in eyes from all over the world and get alot of people interested in hiding there money.

Can someone help me?

I downloaded the monero gui wallet and set up XMRig to start mining monero and did it for about half day. Is there any way to check if I have been doing any progress? the cmd file from XMRig is accepting the pool hashes (??) so everything seems to be running fine from the mining side.

But Onion V3 sites break if Tor isn't 100% up. Which is bad. They're fixing the bug, but everyone running relays will have to update.

BitBay will be delisting XMR on Feb 19th:

>“Monero (XMR) can selectively utilize anonymity features among projects. This feature of XMR is a subject to end of transaction support. The decision was made to block the possibility of money laundering and inflow from external networks.”

This is how you know Monero is destined for great things - it actually works.
