How long should one pay off their credit? I maxed out my $3k credit card and I'm planning to pay it off in 6 months with $500 payments every month. Is this optimal?

Paying it off asap really doesn't make too much sense. The point is, if you pay it off as fast as you can, then what's the point of using credit?

I can pay it, money is not the issue. I want to game the credit system where I get to have more money while worry less about the payment.

Why the fuck do people use credit card? Europoor here, I only use mine for flights or hotels.
I just see literally zero reason to use a company middle man who can see all my transactions when I can just pay cash.

if you're gonna use it to leverage your position, do your calculations on the cost(interest) and potential returns

Interest on a 3k credit is really nothing to worry about. Let the fucking bank earn their 2 cents.

What you have to worry about in regards to interest is when you get credit for buying a house.

Real advice: "You pay a little more than the minimum as you can afford"
If the minimum is $50? Pay back $75-$100.
There's nothing wrong with being in debt on your credit card, the only problem you really have is when you're unable to pay it back or when debt in general gets far more than you can pay back.

Credit card fees and interest rates are much lower if you remember to pay back at least the minimum each month.

You can build up credit without going beyond your means and paying interest; just use it as a debit card and pay it off completely before the due date each month.
I'm not crazy about the whole system either, but if you don't build up credit you're looking at some pretty brutal loans (if you get them at all) if you want to buy property in the future.
Unless you want to go full Amish/Walden, then more power to you.

Hi anon - CC fag here who used to utilise around 4 credit cards (cancelled most due to no traveling/covid)

You should, in all circumstances, aim to pay the final balance off each month. If this isn't achievable - Pay as much as you possibly can and live like a homeless person until it' paid. A credit rating is hard to build, and easy to crumble down back to nothing.

What is your income? What are you expenses?

Retard, is this a new credit card? You know if you open a new card you get 0 APR for 18 months right? Are you really paying 17% APR on your card?
