25631928 No.25631928 [Reply] [Original]

Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized p2p privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT (hidden tx amounts) ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with the proof of the transactions being possible by a Monero user willingly providing a view key for a specific transaction if needed.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of the current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of txs goes higher. Further, the mining network algorithm Random X establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in May 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a Monero Chad will be with you shortly.

Monero is not a standard crypto market. Investors into BTC are not buying it because they see it as a viable currency, but instead because they see gains and don't truly understand the technology.

Monero is quite different, it is not being bought because people want to sit on it and moon (and if you are then you're dumb), you buy monero because you believe it's the most effective answer to the digital currency / crypto question. We will likely see monero increase dramatically in value over time, but only once investors learn more about the technology and realize that no person or company could reasonably use bitcoin or other coins given the extreme lack of privacy.

Competitors could see how much you sell your services for, and how much you buy raw materails for.

Robbers could see how much money you have, and if they can find out your address (i.e. through a merchant being hacked) you are a prime target for being robbed.

Anyone who knows your public address can see what other things you spend your money on, do you donate to party A or B? Do you have a subscription to blacked.com? What kind of income are you getting

Because your using XMR/BTC ratio as a measurement tool for XMR growth. BTC investments are fueled by speculative investors who know nothing about the technology, and buy it because they see growth and decide to hop on. As a result, it's wildly overinflated when you take a moment to look into the core technology and realize its flaws compared to other coins such as Monero.

Overall, you look at its stability and growth, and it's quite good, with lower volatility than most crypto's, and a good track record. It has grown in adoption and transactions over time and the low transaction fees, as well as privacy features, make it prime for being an actual currency, i.e. the entire point of cryptocurrency, rather than some retarded investment that people hold for dear life never to spend a single fraction of a coin on anything.

I buy monero because I like the technology, and because where I can, I always use it to transact. People buy bitcoin because "oh nu muh don't want to miss out!" as a speculative investment with very little chance ot actually be spent on anything.

unpopular opinion: don't DCA at fixed dates with fixed amounts. Local 5% discount dips are easy to spot; they exist because daytrading to fiat is not economical once you factor in taxes.

Delisting FUD's shelf life is running out with atomic swaps in the works. After that, they'll probably move to chain bloat or morality judgements e.g. XMR is the pedo/terrorist's crypto of choice.

In any case, best way to confound a maxipad is to remind them that Monero is replacing BTC in the only default crypto economy.

Life isn't about an ultimate purpose. Life is about living. You are overanalyzing things down to the biology level looking for some purpose in life when that's entirely the wrong approach.

I’m looking at the XMR/XMR ratio, friendo.
BTC is always a solid pick when it’s at a low point, but that’s because of consensus, because it was the first and is the most popular. NOT because of its usability or its tech.
I’m looking for endgame and that’s XMR

>You are overanalyzing things down to the biology level looking for some purpose in life when that's entirely the wrong approach.
nah i have to strip away all the garbage otherwise we will eventually build up ideas and end at 'society' and 'society is good' and 'we need society'
the moment i concede were not just piles of cells doing random shit i will find myself in a society and cheering for it because of all these nice looking reasons which abstract us away from the basic physical reality

>Life is about living.
first i'll point out that is what a stripper would say if i went down to the strip club and asked her what life is about

secondly life isnt about anything its just a thing that happens.
>Living is about connecting with people you care about.
you contradicted yourself since thise sounds like a purpose. reproducing involes you making connections with people in order that your offspring survive. life isn't about anything just because evolution is about something. for a termite evolution is about the nest but that doesnt mean life is about the nest. life is just a thing. life is a tool for nomies to assign different stories so that they can justify how they live

>Have you ever experienced or shared love with anybody in your life? When was the last time you were truly happy?
i dont know and never can know because i only can ever know what i experienced and maybe you feel more or less love than i ever could. if i never felt love or happiness it wouldnt bode well for your life is about connecting with people because it would mean i am living a life which i cannot fulfill that 'aboutness'

you are cells. end of story!

BTC and ETH will become corporate tools, granted they will enrich tons of crypto nerds on the way up, but the tentacles are closing in on them, that was their initial goal, anyways. To gain adoption by the big bois with the big stacks of fiat and drastically upgrade our financial systems and stores of value.

XMR flies in the face of that. Even if banks wanted, they couldn’t take it over. What could a banker do with XMR? I mean you could treat it like a store of value like BTC, but say goodbye to taxes from anybody who simply decides they don’t want to pay them. They could maybe margin trade it, but they’d be better off doing that on regular fiat pairs.
The more they squirm, the tighter the grip gets.

I'd also argue gold is a shitty store of value as all banks hold it and the main usecase is jewellery
silver on the other hand is the best conducting element on earth and sees many usecases in industry etc

Monerbros, this is Stella. I got Stellas mom “Whiskey” in 2017 and Stella herself was born on October 22, 2017, along with 6 brothers and sisters. They were born sick, though.
They had worms and fleas, compounding parasitic infections that we didn’t notice until they were about 2 weeks old, 3 of them died before we could even get them to the vet. I was 21 and I was very poor, all my money was in crypto. I drained my checking account, borrowed money from my mom to pay for their treatments, literally broke down and begged the receptionist to ask the owner to let me pay the rest later.
We only got Stella back from the vet. The 6 others died. She was the lone survivor and I would stay up all night, call out of work to make sure she was nursing from Whiskey, that she was warm and safe. She was the size of a mouse, literally a mouse, bros.

She’s more than 3 years old now, Whiskey just turned 5. They’re healthier and happier than ever.

This is around the same time I started DCAing Monero and playing the shitcoin lottery to get more funds to get more Monero with. I have more savings than I ever could have hoped to have, more than any member of my family ever has since we came to this country nearly a century ago. I made Stella her own wallet containing 3.5 XMR and intend to make her one of the richest cats in the world.
Monero cat lives with me, but she belongs to all of us.

I was thinking about it, and aren't other privacy coins much more likely to get fucked by the gov? Dash and LTC (and by extension MW) both have optional privacy features, which means that in a money laundering lawsuit, it would be much harder to defend deliberate use of obfuscating transactions, while on Monero it is mandatory, where you could argue you were simply holding it in speculation of its value as an asset. And while the end goal is that no one will ever be able to find your stack, at least you have the plausible deniability just in case.

Only a brainlet would use Dash or LTC+MW to launder money.
