Stupid question but can your crypto in your wallet still go up like if you had it in a exchange? Or does it have to be in a exchange to go up or down?

>> No.25372453

>>25372379

bruh what?

You realize when your coin "goes up" that's an estimate of what it will give you when you sell it right?

you can store the coins in a fucking storm drain and if they're worth 100x more on an exchange move them there and sell them. Is this a troll post?

You can "LOCK" your price, when you move it off the exchange. That's how I have ChainLink locked at $20 right now.

You buy an apple from a shop for $2 and put it in the fridge so it doesn't spoil. The shop then starts selling apples for $1.50. What do you think has just happened to the value of your apple?

What does this mean? Please explain for an idiot what locking your price in means. I mean, if you want to sell your alleged 20.00 link you’ll have to move it to n exchange.

I just bought my first bitcoin on robinhood, but I plan on holding it for a long time. How do I put it in a wallet (and just generally can you explain how a wallet works)?

if you store it in the fridge (even better the freezer but I dont have much room in mine) it goes up much faster. this is called cold storage

>> No.25373208

>>25372717
It's basically like a portable storage device which you "store" your bitcoin on (technically, the private key). I don't think robin hood allows you to withdraw your bitcoin to something like a software/hardware wallet, so a wallet wouldn't be of use to you.

That’s it? Sounds like robinhood already IS a wallet, what’s the point?

>> No.25373423

>>25373309
I think they are intending to eventually allow people to withdraw them to wallets, but think of it like this: imagine you went to a gold bullion dealer and exchanged cash for some bars, which you also then store in the bullion dealer's vault. However, the bullion dealer doesn't allow you to ever take that gold out for you to use it or transfer it to somewhere else. The bullion dealer will only give you the current market value in cash for the gold you bought.

That's the situation you're in when you buy with something like robin hood.

>> No.25373575

>>25373423
I think I understand the analogy, but you can’t use bitcoins for anything yet so why are people so obsessed with printing them out and carrying them?

>> No.25373681

>>25373575
Because of transaction time and transaction costs. That's a whole other issue, which goes into things like "multi layer solutions"/lightning network, block size, "multisignature", and all the forks and shit that have happened, along with the US not exactly liking the idea of something replacing the dollar. Don't worry, just buy and hold through robin hood for now.

I use blockchain.com's wallet. It doesn't really matter as long as you own your private key.
