Just YouTube how to do it. Alternators costs like $150 with the core charge and they usually sit in an easy to reach spot. Disengage the serpentine belt, unscrew like 3 bolts, replace the alternator, then engage the serpentine belt again.

You’re not a man if you can’t do simple car repairs. Learn it

Put a multimeter on it while it's running. What is the output? Should be 13.8 volts.

If its the alternator, you can replace it yourself. It's one of the easier jobs. Search youtube for your make of car plus alternator.

Another way to do this is to start the car, then remove the battery terminal connection. If the car stays on, your alternator is good and it’s probably the battery.

This guy's right. You can even get them 2nd hand/new on ebay for way less. Just search your make, model and year. Same with local autowreckers. They'll usually sell them for like $50 off old cars.

Basically you just put a wrench on the wheel labelled "drive tensioner" in the pic related, then when you tork it, the arm will move, loosening up the tension on the belt. It will be the only wheel that's able to move. Take the belt off of the alternator. Then it's literally one bolt to remove the alternator, just slide the new one back on and tighten it up. Tork the pulley arm again and put the belt back on. You're done, it's literally a 15 min fix.

Ya they're built to be repaired which you can't really say for any other vehicles after like the 90s. Car companies now actively make their vehicles hard to repair without specialized tools (like sensor reset codes and stuff), non-standard fasteners, screws intentionally seized that are really soft to make not stripping them almost impossible, etc. It's fucking dumb

But Toyota is one of the companies lobbying against the right to repair, so you can't really give them much praise anymore.

I drive a 1990 buick century and spend in the ballpark of 1500 a year on it. If you're driving something newer and spending that much on it you need a new fucking car. Or just get a bike if you live within 5 even 10 miles. Biking to work is one of the easiest fucking things to do and it keeps you in shape. Hell, where I live it only takes me five extra minutes to bike because traffic is so bad.

If you live in the rust belt you probably have a little more upkeep but I'm a Colorado fag and do pretty well for myself. I don't drive a whole lot though so I'm sure it varies, but I still argue that your car is a lemon if you aren't hitting standard repairs at standard intervals.

I keep a running tab of all work I have done on my shitbox. Somewhat dept ending on my major repairs (serp belt, shocks, cv boot, and (((emissions))) anyways) I figure it becomes worth it for a new car for me if I spend more than probably 3k a year on repairs. I really wanna find a v6 accord in manual but no luck so far. Yet again this could be the last car I own because "you WILL drive the self driving cuckbox"

After sending his car to us a few times he ended up selling it. If u got money burning a hole in your pocket then a European car is for you.
