So we were having a defence discussion the other day. Many anons like myself think it would be sensisble to have some money in defence. We were mostly talking about RTX

HOWEVER

My broker is saying RTX's P/E is around 100 while LMT has a PE of ~15. (Although Yahoo Finance has no P/E for RTX). In terms of market cap, both RTX and LMT are around $100b, which surprised me because I thought LMT was the bigger company

Is it therefore a better idea to invest in LMT if that implies RTX is overprived? Or maybe it's wiser to invest in smaller defence companies or just medium sized ones like NOC?

Basically what I'm asking is, what is the reasoning for choosing RTX out of the entire defence industry?

I sold all mine when it was $30 but I do intend to buy back in, and buy more than I held before. I sold because even at its current price it's almost $40b market cap which I think makes it overvalued. The earliest I'll buy back is after insiders can sell after January. It's not a priority though, there are other stocks I want more badly and more importantly, I think you need a very good reason to buy more tech stocks at the moment

seen alot of outsiders shill it on yt the main selling points for them is fed passing bill that makes it a state issue and not a federal one and cost per gram vs consumer price. biggest thing is people thinking they can recover and it trading under its book value but doesnt change the fact that if their product is subpar no one will want to buy it company or product. If theres any downturn to the economy pricey subpar weed is the first to get the shaft so still wouldnt risk the value play since the future prospects are pretty dire.

For reopening? REITs, Darden, maybe Jets if you want to risk travel exposure, Disney (their parks are largely closed right now). I think Cruise lines are dead. For one, only boomers really like them, and for two, coronavirus is going to be endemic, so you'll probably see flair ups. Plus, a lot of ships sail around poor countries and dock there, so you never know how that country is going to do.

American Airlines does a lot of domestic travel, so they may be the best airline bet. But, remember, airlines are burning money right now.

For big data, I don't really know. I think I'd just invest in cybersecurity instead. Right now we're really seeing an acceleration of big data, so you need to protect that data. Look at the recent hacking in the US, for example

There really is a big difference between having a plan, and enacting a plan. The second part is much more important. Psychology is a huge part of trading. Some people do great DD, but are poor traders, sometimes people don't know anything and are great traders. The thing is, having an iron will and iron hands is almost the most important thing. Hesitation is death, second guessing is death. A good trader is one that can do good research, make a good plan, and enact the plan perfectly. Those are the 3 steps, and only some can do all 3 well.

Current world population is unsustainable long-term. Governments know it since decades ago. All the upcoming crisis (economical, pandemics, food and water scarcity) are planned to reduce population directly (killing) or indirectly (making people unable to breed).
This also is happening conveniently at the start of the 4th industrial revolution, where most of people will lose their jobs and will become useless for society because robots will do their jobs.

Hello, /smg/

I'm a final year student with 5k GBP left from my summer internship that I don't want to rot in my bank account. Currently, my portfolio is:
>70% clean energy ETF
>10% airlines
>10% palantir
>10% biopharma bet

I have a well-paying (>50k/yr) job guaranteed starting in the summer. My question is, is it a better idea for me to be a bit more risky with my 5k savings and drop more on something that has potential in the hope that it moons and I make a decent profit? Once I get my salary I'll stick to this kind of portfolio (majority safe ETFs, some risky picks).

>There is “strong precedence” for gains for stocks before their S&P inclusion and after the announcement, but very limited precedent for near-term outperformance after the inclusion, analyst Toni Sacconaghi at Bernstein said in a recent note.

>And since Tesla’s fourth-quarter sales report in early January aren’t expected “to be a blowout, we would recommend that investors take short-term profits going into Dec. 21,” he said.

>The 50 largest additions to the S&P500 index since 2010 have on average “outperformed strongly” before their announced inclusion in the S&P, outperformed an additional 3% between announcement and inclusion, and “modestly underperformed” in the days and months following inclusion, Sacconaghi said.

>On average, the new entrants fell 1.7% in the six months post inclusion, he said.

Since Tesla is already in a bubble, people will start cashing out but eventually there will be a lack of sufficient buyers until it dumps to 100-300, which as the other anon said will have a negative effect on the rest of the overhyped overvalued S&P

That doesn't make sense though, when a country is poor they tend to rely on getting as many kids as possible so those kids can eventually support their family. That's why Africa is the fastest growing continent and why places like the middle east will increase by another like 30% by 2050. The population decline is happening in the more advanced countries because of the culture that comes with the privilege of having a good life. So how exactly is the elite trying to reduce the world population when the population growth is exploding in the countries they are at the same time making even poorer? Controlling population of the western world + Japan won't help the reduction of people in the globe, we're already projected to die in comparison to Africa if it weren't for the mass immigration

You're a fucking moron, Jesus Christ instead of old people it should be morons like you who drop dead from this. Does covid has similarities with the flu? Sure. Long-term damage? Sure, generally with type-A influenza. Lower death rate? Sure. Since you're apparently not educated enough to realize why this is a problem, it's because you carry covid without showing symptoms much longer than the flu, sometimes you have no symptoms at all. That makes it spread easier. It's "a flu" that spreads easier and faster. Are you too retarded to realize why that's bad?

We're incredibly lucky as a species that this has such a low deathrate, by the way. If this was anything like the Spanish Flu then humanity would have been fucked. We'd best get our shit together and figure out how to maintain outbreaks during this so we know what to do when the next Spanish Flu happens. But dumbfucks like you are like "noooo it doesn't matter, lol, it's just the flu!!!!!" and now we're going to be grossly unprepared for the actual shitshow that happens within the next 10 years.

Nothing of that shit has anything to do with the initial claim. Organ damage is not much worse than what you'd expect from the flu.
Nothing special here. You don't get corona more often than the flu either. The high spread is not an argument. Corona doesn't mutate easily unlike the flu. Once you got it you should be fine for at least a year. It also makes making vaccines and antibodies much easier. Have you looked into ivermectin? Millions of operations were cancelled because they needed the extra staff in city areas. Because of how contagious the disease is, they have to make sure everyone with the "flu" is quarantined within the hospital, which means that they need even more space for just one person. I know it's hard for you to put some real thought into this instead of a conspiracy theory that's nicer to believe but come the fuck on.

I've said in almost every post so far that the next pandemic might not be "a fucking meme" but your head is so far up your ass that you're probably not even reading what I'm saying, which just goes to prove how little you actually know on the subject because otherwise you would have a more thoughtful discourse with me about it.

>The high spread is not an argument.
It literally is but way to show your unwillingness to engage in an actual discussion about it, you just try to sweep arguments under the rug holy shit.
>Corona doesn't mutate easily
There are a dozen strings of covid-19 and many more for SARS. Coronaviruses mutate, idiot. You might say they don't mutate as fast as the flu but so what? They still mutate fast. Comparing it to the flu in every way you can is just a defense mechanism to defend your weak argument.

Hello, RIOT poster here again. Bitcoin is now up 29% on the week while riot is up 7%. We are probably gonna break 24k this weekend. RIOT is now severely undervalued given their yearly profit is now in the 20 million dollar range. And they hold 12 million in bitcoin, and if they're smart have been buying more with their cash.

Just a few pennies is instantly a 5% difference. ~US$52 million market cap
They're trading at 18x of earnings with massive sustained growth the past couple years. Contracts with US military and SEPTA already plus a bunch of smaller school bus companies in US and Canada

I keep thinking it's too good to be true so I'm hesitating going past low 4-figures on it

Why was this covid schizo’s main argument that “well covid 19 might not be that bad but you guys are all dumb dumbs because if the NEXT one is bad we are all screwed!” when the entire reason people dont take covid seriously is because it isn’t dangerous? If it were the fucking bubonic plague im pretty sure most people wouldnt be having any second thoughts. The permanent organ damage being more prevalent is literally the only legitimate argument this faggot has (I’ve also heard it from a fourth year med student friend) but haven’t looked into it myself
Kill yourself my man. And kill yourself too TLS fag

Buying and owning real estate is annoying, you have to sign contracts, be aware of all the legal stuff, perhaps hire guys to manage it, you have no liquidity and unless you're a millionaire even a singly item could be a substantial portion of your wealth. Yields are pretty limited too, and you can't do leverage.
Shares in companies are real because companies are real, companies have assets and earnings that you partake in through your shares. Commodities are "real" in your sense of the word though, so you could trade those too, much less hassle

They’re LITERALLY letters on a screen. If any real problems happen with the company
>your shares are worthless
>the company will go bankrupt or will be taken private
>they’re literally letters on a screen
Shareholders are at the absolute bottom of the totem pole for every company. If you want to actually have a stake in the company, buy corporate bonds or become a CEO. Otherwise you’re just a worthless public shareholder who has 0 actual stake in the company other than letters on a screen with an imaginary price attached to it.

only possible if the buyout is a high enough premium that shareholders will actually vote for it. A successful buyout is usually good for shareholders short-term, if anything it's bad because shareholders get cucked out of future growth but there's always other opportunities

>The takeover was announced late Friday, and Silent Witness shares opened yesterday above the offer price at $11.45, before easing back to $11.15, up $3.90 or 54 per cent on the Toronto stock market.

I can exchange shares for fiat at any time with very high liquidity, and I also receive fiat dividends for owning the stock. How is this not an asset with value.
