Friendly advice. Pick one coin, your frontrunner. research it until you understand it. research it's competitors. Then invest. once you've invested set your horizon and make note of your stop loss. then track it, pulse check the price and get an idea of any new general new information out there. after you're comfortable, pick a second coin. rinse and repeat.

Luck more than anything. Lots of shitty coins get endlessly pumped by shills and idiots and lots of decent projects get ignored.
I have about a dozen shitcoins I've thrown a few hundred at (each) and plan to hodl in hopes that one or more takes off. I'm not putting any more money into them though, if any seem like they're not going to do anything (no news, no development, no github activity etc) I'll liquidate and find somewhere else to put it.
It's just gambling, really. The "tokenomics" is something I don't ignore though. If there is no reason to have the coin, if devs hold a large percentage, and/ or if the supply has no constraints then I don't care how good it looks otherwise it's dead to me.

How many whitepapers have you all read and is there even a point?

>> No.24937013

It's no different than stocks. If you spend all your time spreading thin trying to find the next big thing you'll probably just end up losing money.

Do some surface level research on any coins you hear about. Pick a few that sound promising then do some deep dive research and if you think they'll pay off, invest.

As far as the technical aspect goes, you don't need to read everything down to the source code, you just need to know what each coin brings to the market/infrastructure and how it can be used practically.

Buy low, Sell High, have fun.

>> No.24937853

If you're not a brainlet you can tell if something's a scam or not from the whitepaper, and if you're actually somewhat intelligent you can evaluate the potential success of the business model from a whitepaper. It's like reading SEC filings for stocks. You don't have to do that to make money trading stocks, but it'll definitely help you avoid landmines that steal your gains.

1. Every scam in crypto is designed specifically to take in people who are very intelligent.
2. You cannot con an honest man.
3. Being very intelligent it not in the top 5 requirements to be a successful investor or trader of crypto.

What do you think about that list? I think you are very intelligent and you can make some gains here but I also think you are likely to get played at some point. And so, no matter how successful you are at this, one of these days you are going to get taken and you are going to get taken hard. It doesn't have to be that way. I am honestly telling you now that this is ALL scams and you should stay out if you can't figure out how to win. Sorry for being so rude earlier. Merry Christmas.

It probably takes a pretty high intelligence to get into crypto, lets be honest here.

I don't think the likelihood of getting rugged is nearly close to what you're saying. Besides, after you've made your first 10x or whatever you're not supposed to be gambling with substantive amounts in pajeetcoins anyway so that even lessens the impact.

The gist is enough for scam detection, understanding heavy math is more for assessing long term viability and profitability.

I haven't read polkadot's whitepaper. Last whitepaper I read was Kleros and it lit a fire under my ass. I had zero problem understanding everything in it, but I'm pretty wide read in general so I didn't have a problem understanding the ancient greek stuff and the game theory stuff and how it would work in an online jury system.

>>24938269
This guy has a very good point. Being intelligent isn't enough to not get scammed. Intelligent people should really read The Intelligent Investor and Taleb's Incerto to get a good sense of what's a good investment and what's not so that they can avoid scams a bit better. Easiest way to avoid being scammed is to just say no and walk away, works every time.

No, it really doesn't. Any idiot can install metamask or buy a hardware wallet or install electrum and sign up for an exchange or put money in a bitcoin atm. That's like saying it takes a pretty high intelligence to own and operate a car. Understanding how a car works and being able to fix it is very different from owning and operating a car.

Protip: you will drain the fuck out of yourself trying to keep up with every token, scam and shitpost
Take your time, the markets move slower than you think. Good projects can take years to pump while food tokens do 1000% overnight. If you feel the need to rush into a project then it's better to forget it all together, don't even check the price in the future. Sure you may have won a gamble or two without doing your research but it is that, a gamble and it'll catch up.

If I ever feel the need to rush into a trade creeping up I generally walk away.

Right now many people missed GRT. Those who didn't knew what was coming, we didn't know when the laying would happen bit as soon as it did, had plenty of research to buy with confidence.
