Various reasons:
- It's a coin that aims to be fast, efficient, scalable and without fees. The last two are being key points.
- It's gaining traction (see charts) now that IOTA, which is also a no-fee currency, surprised a lot of people with a $1b+ market cap.
- The dev is a software engineer that has worked for big companies with low level stuff, so he's clearly a pretty skilled programmer.

That said, it's still early and I'm not expecting to suddenly blow up and become one of the big boys just yet. I bought it with the intention of holding it long-term.

Aah, I mostly just use it for telling me when my chosen coin has fallen below my buy order price or hit my sell order price. I also use it for coins that I'm watching but haven't bought into yet to manually decide whether or not now is the right time to buy in.

As for buying in, I don't always pick the best times due to the nature of how I trade. I don't day trade, I just invest in projects that I think are undervalued and hold them then take profits every so often to diversify. What I usually look for to buy in is nice sideways movement with consolidation. Other times I'll simply buy the dip.
