OP you're gonna get 100 posts with 100 different shitcoins.
Here's the deal:
BTC and ETH are top dog right now but I think they are destined to be replaced by other coins that probably don't even exist yet. They both have unresolvable problems for long term use.

Most of the other top 10 are has-beens that people are clinging to. Maybe Cardano is good, idk.

Then there are 1000 other shitcoins that get thrown against the wall to see if they stick. A handful are cool and could have value in the future but most people are looking to get rich quick and don't invest in the good hopefully-long-term projects. Lots of scams and pump and dumps, many of which have bigger market caps than the legit projects.

You could do a bunch of research and find the few gems out there that may eventually get picked up by the masses and do really well but it's risky and a 1 year time-line probably isn't enough.

On a 1 year timeline I would go all in on Bitcoin if you don't want to waste 1000 hours reading whitepapers and researching. I expect it to at least double, and worst case is it drops 50% and you have just have to wait for it to come back up to get out without a loss. I think Bitcoin under $20k is "safe" in that regard for at least a couple years.
