Explaining it further...

The xrptoolkit is simply a pretty interface to the XRP Ledger API.
It converts your clicks and keystrokes into the data that needs to be signed using a secret key (see asymmetric encryption).
That secret key is stored inside your hardware wallet in a secure microchip. This microchip never ever outputs those secret keys. It only receives data (e.g. payment details, escrow requests, etc), encrypts it using the secret key, and then sends it back signed.
The only way to break it is by using a shit ton of computing power running until the heat death of the universe or by breaking the laws of quantum physics, and even then who knows if you would be so lucky.

Everytime the app youre using has to ask the device to sign what it wants.

Hell, even if you lost your ledger or it got stolen or whatever, you would sill be safe because the only way it allows any signing to occur is if it is unlocked.

As long as you keep those 24 words it gave you at the start safe, your shitcoins will stay where they are
