Eerily similar to me, I got other stuff I have to work on besides “training” though.
The potency of claiming that you are having internet issues to avoid meetings is a spicy one, do not be afraid to pull this card.

Just a tip if you ever get a signed online learning modules always select the low bandwidth option. That lets you skip through them really fast and not have to watch any of the stupid fucking videos it just gives you photos instead.

Bros I'm going to post this every day in this stupid thread till I finally escape.

I have a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. Let me be a warning to u frens, don't fall for this meme. I'm a CAD monkey, I draw lines and circles. My job could easily be done from home but the field is infested with boomers and they don't allow it. If any one has advice on how to escape this hell, please help. I'm currently saving up money to go to a coding bootcamp, mostly for the networking.

I tried doing engineering as a second degree after I did some time in the military. They said my math courses were too long ago. Instead I did computer science. Now I get to work from home. Feels good man.

I haven’t used a sick day in eight years. Working from home there’s just no good excuse to use a sick day unless you need surgery or something. Right now I have 25 days of sick saved up so in case I’m ever in an accident or need surgery I can have a couple weeks off.

I work as an engineer in the DoD. We're getting a permanent telework option by the end of January, up to the discretion of our supervisor. My supervisor's pretty chill and we have high productivity (a few years ahead of industry), so hopefully we'll get to try it out. I should only be in the lab twice a week or so anyways, the rest of my job can easily be done remotely.

I honestly don't even mind work, I like it even - I just hate feeling rushed in the morning and commuting somewhere, as well as the feeling that my time is being wasted when I don't have something immediate to work on. If I were at home, I could stay productive by working on other things as well.

Hello brother, I also have a BSME degree and a shitty boomer infested job. I thought coding boot camps were a meme? I get in these threads all the time and a lot of people recommend dev ops and cyber stuff.

the commute's the worst part IMO. all the time spent getting ready and getting to and from work is better spent on other things

What discipline, and how did you get the job? Seems comfy. I studied mechanical and work in manufacturing, it’s fucking torture

My hair's a bitch and takes time to dry before I can properly shape it. Only solutions are either waking up earlier (dedicating even more unpaid time to work) or buying a hairdryer (not sure if that's healthy for your hair or not). Plus things like making lunch and such are dome in the morning or the night before, which is also unpaid labor. Thankfully my commute is pretty short, ~20 minutes on a single road.

Computer engineering degree, electronics engineer position. I work in aerospace. They recruited me at a campus job fair.
>Seems comfy
100%. The first hour of my day just ended, and I slept through it before posting on /biz/. Going to take a 90 minute lunch in 20 minutes, then have a quick post-lunch nap. Then I'll do a little online training (annual) before a meeting at 2:00. Meeting will end around 3:00, and I have 2 hours to burn before my shift ends. I usually leave 10-20 minutes early if I have nothing to do.

Literally every work day is like this, give or take the meetings/training.

I save a shit ton of money by staying home too. Fuel and lunches really add up. I could pack a lunch but like you said, even more time spent that i'm not getting paid for. Now i can walk to the kitchen and cook a meal instead of heating up leftovers or eating a sandwich every day.

I'm usually in the office doing work for classified DoD job, but I just caught the big rona. This will keep me from working on a really interesting machine learning project and I will have to regress into software development...

Times like this make me reflect on why I didn't continue for my PhD in astro or materials.
