This is just depending on your goals though. If you can't retire at 50 with 100k/year you should take a long look at your standards and what you actually want from a retirement. A yacht is 30k. A nice house in Costa Rica maybe 150k.

And you can retire with 30k a year, smart investment choices and a normal lifestyle.

It all depends on what you want. Especially Americans often have this view that you can't retire unless you have three million while Swedes or Germans basically live happy retired lives on 40k a year in SEA.

It kills small businesses that boosts Amazon, tech, hospitals that get huge amounts of money for every rona case.

Fellow britbong here.
As other anons have said, try getting a higher paid job + move out of the crowded big city (where houses are cheaper) + get a budget calculator - make sure you're not pissing away money every month. Live frugally.

Once you have all that done that should free up some extra cash every month:
>S&S ISA - Limit is £20k per year which works out to roughly 1.6k a month.
Get as close as you can to maxing this out, Vanguard is your go to. I would personally recommend a 90% 10% split between the FTSE global All Caps Accumulation fund + Global bonds.
>LISA
Housing market in the UK is a clown market and we're probably due for a correction soon. If you haven't got a LISA get a LISA. You can dump a max of 4K every financial year and the government will match it with £1000 if you are using it to buy your first house.
>Emergency fund
Have like 3 months worth of expenses tucked away in some high street bank current account.
>Gold
Thankfully Sovereign/Britannia gold coins are exempt from Capital Gains Tax so you can keep a decent amount in a vault as a hedge against a recession. You need like £2000 for it to financially viable storing it in a vault.
>Pension
You can either go with your company's pension or a SIPP where you opt out of your company's scheme and invest in your pension yourself. This is personal choice, I keep my company's pension.

Once you have all that in order, you should be set for a comfortable retirement. You can add in memes like renting property (too much headache and way overhyped in the UK IMHO) or more risky plays like individual stocks/options but the above is more than enough.

the main problem i have with bears is that their risk to reward is way worse with shorting and the statistics are historically against them ("On average, when the market is evaluated from 1957–2019, there were bear markets or losses for 362 days, while the bull markets or gains were for 1,651 days."). not only that but with going long, you don't have to pay any interest for holding, DCA'ing involves buying cheaper share not shorting more expensive ones, and literally the worst case scenario possible is losing 100%, no more than that. with going short it's the opposite, your potential losses are infinite (can be greater than your investment) and your upside is at most double your money at 100% if the company literally go bankrupt.

if you pick good companies and use TA to see where the "buy low" opportunities are relative to the long term average price, keep track of current events and company news, and keep powder available to DCA down if it goes lower while scaling out when it goes in your favor, you literally can't lose. worst case scenario, even in extreme cases like 2008 or the covid crash of 2020, you literally LITERALLY can just wait (although if you git gud you'd know when shit was hitting the fan and would cut your losses much earlier, then buy the dip when it's over and make many multiples over what you lost).

besides, permabulls should like it when the market goes down. we need it to go down to be able to buy the dip in the first place. if it never went down there would never be a dip to buy. but statistically, with blue chip stocks especially, stocks literally do only go up in the long run. this is an objective fact, it is indisputable. even the guy who bought the top of TSLA post split would have made a profit by now if he just held for 2.5 months since he bought. even people who bought the top of the market before the covid crash would have reached break in like, half a year i think? if they just held and did literally nothing but wait.

Next week probably nothing. I think this small pullback this week was some profit taking and there's going to be a lot of cash sitting on the sidelines waiting to see how Black Friday goes. I expect early December to show a rise in Corona and more political instability, with a potential of more state lockdowns that are just waiting for the biggest shopping day of the year to pass. They'll let retail have their day, then institute the lock downs. I think we're in for a red December until the transition of power and stimulus news in January, and I'm usually a permabull.

MOON is riskier given that their top holdings are literal memes. Keep in mind NIO can suddenly go to 25 or 100 and no one would be surprised. ARKK has had consistent gains and reliable holdings (especially now that TSLA is in the S&P), albeit no incredible spikes. It is a gamble because if I'm recalling correctly, more miners increases the mining difficulty. My MARA position is very small, just a few LEAPS for 2023, a couple calls for 01/15/2021 and 200 shares. I'm just looking for it to spike above 6 and then I'll exit my shares via covered calls. There probably is more upside than $6, but I'm not sure if bitcoin mania will affect stuff on the stock market side of things like it did on the last run.

puts don't make sense when you're paying OVER a 10% premium just to hedge for a dip within a month
never mind something like 5/21 with a 40% premium. Like lel with a crazy premium like that, you only break even when it goes down -40%... You'd be better off having a stop loss and catching the falling knife afterwards

you are a small enough player and have no restrictions (unlike fund managers) that you can just liquidate when it breaks support
Just watch the moving average because 99% of the momentum traders riding PLTR are going to take profits once it breaks under some moving average (probably on the hourly considering PLTR just IPO'd and doesn't have moving averages beyond that)

If you go into the market expecting 100% certainty I'd suggest bonds.
We don't even know if the US stock market will even exist in 10 years just because it did for the last 100 years.

People are buying QQQ and its companies because they expect companies like Microsoft and Amazon to grow like they did in the last 10 years and heavily beat the market. And there is little doubt they will co time to do so.

"The chance exists that it could not turn out that way." without adding substance to the point of your argument is not even an argument, it's a redundant statement. Like saying "I don't know if we will really use the internet in 5 years." Like, sure, nobody knows. But without adding some substance to that sentence you don't actually say anything.

to their credit they actually have a real product rolling out into the US right now unlike half of the other 2 billion dollar EV valuations.

I'm pretty new to stocks, just put in 8k over October and November. Started by options trading like a lot of naive people I suppose and lost some of it but got lucky on a few and decided to form a strategy other than "fuck it". Right now I hold half my portfolio in RTX, wanted a nice dividend stock that was poised to do well in a recovering market. I could've picked wrong, I'm no genius, but I like that they cover both a Neoliberal Biden war on some third world country scenario and have inroads to commercial aviation which I expect to recover over the next few years. Jumped on the RIDE dip but I don't really want it haha, I probably missed the boat on EVs and will try to unload that if it shoots up again. Other than that I'm just trying to accumulate as much PLTR as possible and holding one SPY put as a hedge. I feel smart but this is probably all dumb lol.

>People are buying QQQ and its companies because they expect companies like Microsoft and Amazon to grow like they did in the last 10 years and heavily beat the market. And there is little doubt they will co time to do so.

this is clearly where you are wrong.
people are expecting the companies that change our society to always deliver the best returns but that is not how it works and historically that is never how it worked.

Look at Spotify it come out ten years ago and completely changed how we listen to music, but they still havent figured out how to make any money.

If you look at historic data, large cap growth like Microsoft and Amazon is favoured to lag the market the next ten years. meaning if you buy QQQ and hold it for the next ten years your expected returns are much lower then the
expected returns of the broad market.

Microsoft will no doubt still be a big company in 2030 but that doesn't mean they will deliver the best returns in the next ten years.

Man. You're just all over the place. Big tech, constituting the majority of QQQ, made profits for years, constantly increasing them each year together with revenue. They don't need to find a way to be profitable. They have been profitable for years.
Wtf. You want with Spotify?

There is absolutely no case for Microsoft or Amazon to lag behind the market. None.

>meaning if you buy QQQ and hold it for the next ten years your expected returns are much lower then the expected returns of the broad market
And on what, pray tell, would you base that confident statement of yours?

>Microsoft will no doubt still be a big company in 2030 but that doesn't mean they will deliver the best returns in the next ten years.
That is correct. But unless computers stop to be a thing they will grow, and much faster than the earth bound companies of old that make the SP underperform compared to QQQ.

We are all looking for a way to outperform QQQ and on 4chan we are contrarians as well. But there is no argument against big tech, unless you really believe in the "big break up" or whatever. If that's the case, then sure, adjust. If you believe in some reverse 10 year patterns of historic mega cap performance and want to be a contrarian trader betting on XOM and KO? Tread lightly.

My advice: Just buy big tech. Don't try to be a hero.

Bro just get a motorcycle. You can have the prosthot ride pillion and you can literally just knock her off if you change your mind. Plus the added benefit of not tipping over at speed, well that is if you're not braindead.

Somebody told me VOO was a tiny bit better than SPY because of fees or dividends or something?

How come I never hear about REITS here? Should I wait until the housing crash to buy?

does anyone know of a site that you can use to screen for volume on options? basically what I'm asking is for a way to not have to wait for people to post those dumb 'uNuSuAl wHaLe AcTiViTy!1!!1!!1' alerts and just start searching through volume numbers on option chains myself
