when a stock or a crypto loses value where does the money go? it's not like someone is burning $100s to warm their house

sellers get the money, buyers hold the asset

the market cap doesn't represent anything except supply x the price of last exchange. value isn't being created or destroyed when price moves.

The money never existed in the first place. It's just an aggregate value based on unit price, which is based on what whoever owns that stock has been selling it for. Stocks and crypto are commodities which can be exchanged on -exchanges- for money. You can learn more about how all of this works on Wikipedia it's not very complicated.

>when a stock or a crypto loses value where does the money go?
The price you see is not the "Value" of the stock or crypto. It is the price other people are willing to pay for a share or a coin. You can have companies that do absolutely NOTHING that make huge promises and get people to jump on board making their stock price skyrocket, destined to plummet when they cannot fulfill their promises and they actually do nothing. That does not mean you cannot make a lot of money buying them low and selling high, but that is not the biz way. YOU are destined to buy high and sell low, forever.

Stocks are like tokens.
You exchange money for tokens (company keeps money)
Company does shit and the value of your token drops
1token=1dollar becomes 100tokens = 1dollar
The company uses the dollars to buy blow and get blown while you hold the bag like a cuck.

the value isn't itself money
I can say my shoe is worth $20 then step in dog shit and say its then only worth $2, that just means its value has decreased not that any money has vanished

Pretty sure the fed does destroy a certain percentage of old money, plus if we’re talking physical money a certain amount literally gets lost of destroyed by people being dumb.
