When AMD announced their Ryzen line of CPUs in 2016 or so, I had a funny feeling that Intel was in serious trouble. They had already failed to delivery on Broadwill and it was clear that Intel was likely to continue having problems delivering on ever smaller processes. At the time, I was also thinking that the datacenters could move from X64 to ARM for power savings.

Intel's business hasn't cratered yet but AMD's latest Ryzen processors are going to start eating into Intel's Xeon profits unless data center operators are hellbent on using Intel silicon. Meanwhile, Apple's new Macs, based on their ARM chips, will be a proving grounds for more widespread ARM use.

If Intel doesn't get its ass in gear, it's going to be truly, seriously fucked. The stock at the moment looks like a value stock. However, IMO, it's a value trap and the stock is going to lose more than 50% of its price within the next 7 years. Intel's current work over the past decade on nanometer processes has hit a dead end and they're going to have to backtrack before they can more forward again.

So long as TSM doesn't make a serious error, Intel is likely never going to recover the crown of being the most advanced foundry and its CPUs are going to suffer.
