What you're describing is what we do in mobile development all the time. I make a fake app and then pay to get installs. When you open up the install it asks questions about the types of games you play and whether you would like a new game x which has features a b c.
We then take the feedback and how expensive the installs were and use that to determine how good of an idea the new app/game would be.
As a dev I don't need your shitty app that do what is a a best practice for both me and my competitors.

Yeah my friend worked as a mobile game dev for a company which did just that (Playrix)! Infact he came up with the idea when he saw the ad spend on it and tried figuring out how he could make it cheaper for indie developers. I was just an UI artist at a different company (a 2010 startup that did well) but don't know shit if it's worthwhile or not, but I guess public 4chan opinion prevailed so I'm telling him to fuck off.

The app train already left and it's not coming back. App stores have highly curated top 10 lists and it's basically a saturated market.

In my experience as a web developer there's only money in making apps for people but not in selling them. So my boss has a shitty mismanaged business and wants me to write an app for him. I do it by using WebView on Android and iOS, then the idiot thinks I'm some kind of genius because the previous guy was a Windows retard with blinders on and never caught onto the mobile development train.

Most of these retarded faggot apps could be just replaced by a website hence web view is all you need. It's a fucking homo idea to begin with to ask someone to install a program on their device that has access to all kinds of shit just to navigate some shitty menus.

Fuck mobile app, they will be replaced by websites unless in a rare case when direct hardware access is needed.

Well I do know full stack web dev as it's literally entry level CS shit but I still think that flutter is the future for both web and cross-platform native apps, as it can literally do all of those things combined in one single iteration, like if you have react + react native combined. But yeah I agree. App development is stale a bit. Game development can still be milked but that requires more dedication than making an app and I'm not going to that gay shit again because on my last job in game dev that was ages ago, even before the mobile app craze, everyone was an elitist C++ prick with a PhD in AI that got extremely triggered even by the smallest remarks during code reviews, and when I quit my job due to unfulfilled dividend promises I made an indie game myself that went relatively viral back in 2016, still got buttfucked by Vodoo because of legal shit and received a substantial cut on my revenue stream. So fuck game dev. App development is relatively new to me and I like the notion of it being easy just like web development. Though I don't think that it's completely dead like you suggested. AR trends are happening, ML/Deep Learning trends are happening. You can't make retarded shit like fart buttons anymore but AR apps like AR tattoo previews are doing rather well, even though they're like half a year old.

If I would look to make money developing games it would be by making games for old consoles like the Dreamcast. They can't fuck with your distribution. There were some kickscammer faggots that put up goals for releasing their vaporware game on different platforms and the Dreamcast version got way more money than they expected.
