The problem is when you're starting with a couple of grand and throwing in $150 a month into your IRA, 10-20 years in a total market index isn't enough. You'll need like 30 or 40 years to make it to just a couple of million which is the minimum it will take to live off of by that time. People want to live their lives not have themselves used up by some soulless corporation. They want to retire by 40. The only way to do that is with leveraged ETFs, options, or really lucky single stock pics like TSLA starting 10 years ago.
