Options trading without 25K is stressful fuck the daytrade kike rule. For now if I buy a call that is going up and think it may go down or stay even I sell the call above it instead. Lets me lock in SOME of the profits, but still I was up $400 at one point today and wanted to close out my positions but kikes say I cant. ended the day +$140. Guess thats about what I would make wagecucking but I cant wait until im at 25K. Yesterday I made $600 but today was tougher thanks to crAPPL and their overhyped product announcements dragging down my tech stonks.

Options newfag here. If I do a debit call spread on a stock I dont have 100 shares in, and it exceeds the strike price of the sold call, cant I just get assigned and forced to buy the shares? Does the profit made from my purchased call actually negate the potential loss from selling an uncovered call?

Your broker holds the (spread - credit = Max loss ) as cash collateral. You pay the difference of the settled price. So if you sold a call @70 and bought a call @75, there is a $500 spread. Maybe you got a $2 credit for entering the position. This means under $70, both calls expire worthless and you keep the $2 credit, profit = $2. But if its between say, $73, the stock would have to be bought at market price and sold to the option holder at a discount, with you paying the difference (minus the credit, or $3-$2=$1. At $72 you break even since the credit covers the loss entirely.
Above $75, your long call has value too (exactly $500 less value than the $70 call), so that is what covers the losses above that point.
Robhinhood will settle options about an hour before market close on expiry date BTW so you shouldnt be assigned. This can work against you if the desired price movement happens right around close but thats the price to pay using RH, not sure how other brokers handle it..I think.if you actually had 100 shares you could close your long leg and take the assignment if you truly believe the price will tank right before close but otherwise you better off just letting the positions be liquidated automatically since you can always buy stonks in extended market hours.

This is important because there are cases where you have both legs OTM. At 3pm robinhood starts trying to sell your options and after 4pm robinhood doesn't try to sell them anymore because they are both OTM. If the stock jumps up a ton after 4pm (this happened with TSLA to someone) then both legs can suddenly be in the money.

The thing is Robinhood actually lets your option expire, and since options can technically be exercised up to 4:30pm, you end up owing the entirety of your short leg and your long leg expires for NOTHING. You OWE credit on a debit spread that YOU PAID DEBIT FOR.

NEVER EVER let robinhood sell your spread on the last day EVER.
