Not true, its better but only marginally. In some ways its worse. With commuting at least you get that travel aspect (if you're driving, fuck public transportation). You can also shoot the shit with your coworkers if they're chill, which can make the day go by faster. WFH has its benefits, like being able to nap in the middle of the day. That being said, working 12 hours a day in a coalmine is not the goal either, and I dont mean to imply that it is. That is even more hellish, without a doubt. And it is not true that man is meant to "work", this is a result of protestant brainwashing. Throughout much of human history, man has lived life in a way that did not involve regular backbreaking or mind numbing labor. In fact that kind of life was always the lot of slaves. You can have a challenging and therefore meaningful life that is not simultaneously one of enslavement, whether it be physical, mental, spiritual, or economic, or all of the above.

I have a very comfy bullshit job in cyber security for a bank. My bosses don't understand what I do because they think it's complicated. At the end of the day I work maybe 3 hours a week on my 8 hours/day job.
Run some automated tool. Generate report automatically. Done for the week.

Best decision ever. Rest of the day I trade and chill. The more vague the job description is the better. And only go for big institution / banks. All the bullshit jobs are there.

I have co-worker who do extra hours for free etc. Fuck that. If you can slack then do it. Ppl think work more = get more. No. I don't do shit all day but I'm friendly with the right ppl and it get me there. I've always resented that advice. I do something I hate now for two days a week and make triple what I did from working five days a week. It's exactly as awful but I almost feel like I have time to do shit now at least. Certainly helps to have money too. Follow the money, work sucks no matter what you do because it takes time to matter how you slice it. Make the time count and just get it over with.

I enjoy my job, I earn decent money, spending time in an industry I wish to spend time in, making career gains.
Still Id rather be at home for half the week. Covid has given me a bit of time off, so one week off one week working kind of thing. Much prefer on/off to working 40 hours a week 48 weeks or whatever.

The happiest I had ever been, looking back, is when I was working construction with a group of friends. The pay was shit but it felt like I was doing something natural and important. I was with my tribe, working with my hands. We rarely stayed on the same job site for more than a week, so we were always in a new environment.
