Their options interface is decent to get familiar with the concept of options, but you're taking a chance doing anything other than buy & hold on the platform.
Back in Feb. / Mar. these threads were full of people freaking out because RH was totally down and people with anything time sensitive got butt fucked.

I use Fidelity Active Trader Pro, but if you're looking for a low-barrier-to-entry alternative to RH I'd recommend trying WeBull.
It has an actual PC interface and you get access to fun stuff like lvl 2. data, I believe.
I haven't heard of of them having technical problems on the same level as RH, though it could just be because they're lesser known atm.
And all that said, this only applies if you're determined to actively trade.
There's nothing wrong with buy and hold, and you're actually much more likely to be profitable over the long term doing that.
Either way, take it slow.

That's not barbell. The barbell works by keeping the vast majority (90%) of the portfolio in totally secure options, namely US treasuries. The remainder is kept in ultra-high risk highly leveraged options. The latter being something like the cheapest LEAPs available in something that's likely to see a positive swan, and highly diversified at that, so you can play the odds in your favor. Conversely you can also play negative swans with short positions. But the leverage is the key. Taleb didn't necessarily recommend it, but in The Black Swan he does indicate that he sells calls (naked, presumably) to short.

As far as the last bit is concerned: Taleb outright admits you /will/ lose money until you hit the pick, but if your option selections are well optimized you shouldn't be losing much money. Because of the leverage you'll be disproportionately rewarded because options pricing models wig the fuck out when you get a +/- swan.
