/p/fag here. Flash is one of those things that the general public doesn't understand the purpose of. They generally think oh it's more light so it must be good. Most photographers shoot with the flash off camera because they understand you need to control the direction the light is coming from and they usually use some kind of modifier like an umbrella or a softbox to diffuse the light and eliminate hard shadows on the face. So when non photographers use flash, they tend to fuck the lighting up and make the faces look less attractive.
