Why do people use the DXY, which is over 50% just USDEUR, to analyze metals? What does the euro have to do with relevant dollar strength / weakness when the Eurozone is our economic bitch and their central banks copy ours anyways?

IMO we should at least use the trade weighted dollar index, and given that CAD and pesos are memes, just use USDCNY since 90% of our economically significant imports come from chinks.

No this only shows how metals behave with the USD during a normal market (USD goes up metals go down. Obvious stuff). No matter how bad it looks we're still in a normal market. No big economic disasters/events yet and a large group of people still believe everything will normalize by next year.

If things get pretty bad worldwide there is a pretty good chance that the milkshake will sour and people will flock to other assets instead.

Aight you nerds, I want your feedback since I'm doing this literally all alone and in complete secret to everyone I know. When shit went down in march, I shat my pants and realised that if shit hit the fan I'd be helpless. So among other things like either investing my money or taking it out of the bank, I bought pms. Since then, I got my hands on
>4 gold ounce coins - a Krugerrand, a Philarmonica, an Australian one and a British one
>about 20 1g little bars, that I see as a complete waste of money but my reasoning was that them being smaller would facilitate a potential exchange for liquidity - still not sure I'm not just stupid for buying them
>approximately 3kg of silver, under the form of 5x 100g bars and the rest in coins

The most important thing is to:

1. Check the mass, diameter, and thickness. If one or more of these factors are off you have a fake.

2. Does the coin pass the all three measurements? Good, but you still have one more important test: the ping test. Tungsten is a metal that is very similar to Gold in density/weight, so fake coins with tungsten core can have similar weight and dimensions. However it easily fails the ping test. While tungsten makes little to no sound when tapped, real coins with copper (e.g. Eagles) makes a very distinct very high pitched and loud ping noise when tapped with an object.

3. If the coin passes all the tests mentioned above, then the only concern is having a fake coin with real gold (so real gold but fake mint/design). In this case the only loss is the premium then.

my guess would be either slight changes in composition at the mint, or perhaps preservation or surface treatment.

color varies on the eagles because they're not pure gold. So the copper and silver mixed in change the tone of the coin and can change over time and by exposure to chemicals.

>> No.22157554

>>22157477
Are you hitting the coins in the same places? I noticed that ringing has different tones if you hit at inconsistent places.

Anyways if it rings you're sure it has no tungsten in it and it has gold. Worst case scenario you got one of those fakes that have slightly lower gold content (20k vs 22k).

Look at charts and apply some TA and you'll feel comfy. We're in a continuation pennet right now for both gold and silver, silver's seems a bit more bullish.

Although I personally feel as though QE does nothing and the Fed can't really increase inflation since no one wants loans. So truthfully there isn't a good fundamental reason to be invested in rocks beyond speculation. In the 1970's gold went from like 50 to 850 an oz and it's associated with the increasing interest rates at that time. Since we're sitting on 0%, we really only have one direction to go.

I've also heard that bond yields and rock prices are directly correlated but considering bond yields have shit the floor and gold is still high Imma call bs, it's a purely speculative market. Because it's a speculitive market, TA is gonna be your best friend. Make sure you look at daily, 3 day, and weekly charts. Don't bother trying to get a read on 15 minutes charts or any of that nonsense.

Negative? The macro trend for interest rates has been down if you look over the last 100 years. There's no way interest rates are going up any time soon if that's what you're implying. They're going to be at effectively 0 for the next 2 years at least and if that doesn't work they'll definitely be going negative.

I think your association between the price of gold increasing coming off the gold standard and interest rates going up at the same time isn't a good indicator of what will happen in the future.

The lowest I've ever seen or heard of is -0.10 -- -0.12 in Japan. I seriously can't imagine the US driving interest rates into these territories but I suppose it's possible. The only way that's happening is if 0+% interest rates are labeled as being racist. Personally, I think low interest rates are a side effect of a highly restrictive economy, not something that has an overly dramatic effect on the economy.

I didn't even consider the gold standard aspect. So it really is just 100% speculation and market fear of a collapsing dollar? I'll stick to my TA then, thanks.

Also I really think you're getting confused about the relationship between gold and interest rates. Gold went up during the 70's because of inflation getting out of control; the government tried to get inflation under control by raising interest rates. Inflation caused both of those things to happen, interest rates raising didn't cause gold to go up.

Now I would say inflation is definitely set to go up in the next few years but that's what most governments want to happen because of how consistently low inflation has been in most developed countries for the last decade, so they're not going to start raising again until things have recovered and look stable even if inflation is a bit higher than their ideal. I don't think anyone want rates to go negative, not only because it's politically unpalatable to most people, but also because it's actually probably going to do more harm than good to the financial system and getting it to have the effect they want involves other more unpalatable measures (e.g. cashless society).

My history knowledge isn't great but I think the reason inflation went out of control in the 70's was because of the oil crisis. OPEC countries were cunts and raised oil prices a bunch, fucking over the people who relied on oil which of course was pretty much everyone because you need fuel for your car, which then rippled throughout the rest of the economy. Also probably coldwar geopolitical stuff as well.

IMO grams are the weight size everyone loves to shit on, until they're the only size available. So I'd hang on to them and then get other 1/2 oz or even 1/4 oz stuff. Don't go overboard ofc but fractionals have their place in a solid stack. The premium eating you is the price for getting in on the game when 1 ozt gold is still considered expensive. A kid working at BK got started stacking that way, and he's legit better off with a few grams than with nothing.

>>22158060
Unironically this. My LCS is a little expensive on bullion (31 for generics when silver's at 28), but really good on Constitutional (21 * FV at same spot price, for 29.37/oz).

>>22160002
No LCS will rip off any buyer, virgin or not. They can't afford the reputation hit. Just remember to stick to American 'junk silver' — I hate that term, BTW, and prefer to call it Constitutional instead — if you get any non-bullion, and remember that the owner will probably quote junk silver prices in a multiple of face value.

Take that multiple and DIVIDE by .715 — the average amount of silver in a dollar's worth of 90% silver coins — to find the overall price of silver per troy ounce.

Going from the above price, if you put 21 / .715, you'll come up with 29.370629, which you generally want to just truncate to 2 decimal places.

Good luck to you, fren!

Stack the most familiar good coin of your region; Australian sterling, Canadian 80%, US 90%. Avoid the debased stuff and War Nickels unless you get it appropriately under spot (hypothetical refining will cost more as purity decreases).

>>22159934
I prefer poured loaf bars and ingots, they don't tarnish as easily and can be handled and dinged without really affecting eye-appeal (and thus value, for some).

I'm a pretty stubborn old-school millennial thanks to some grizzly stackers I knew as a kid, I don't play the crypto Ponzi scheme, just hold a bit for contingencies and don't trust my stock instincts outside the mining/commodities realm so the core has always been a growing hoard of silver bullion.

I may hang my head hearing about the gains of the LINK shills, but have managed to work out an excellent system for stacking below-spot silver bullion (incidental cheap gold too but the focus is silver).

Many people are very ignorant of weights, measures and precious metals so both gold jewelry and my preference sterling silver flatware and antique hollowware, platters etc can be collected up for refining consistently and affordably.

Maybe 5-10% comes locally from sales or goodwill, most from eBay and various online classifieds. Thankfully I have lots of hands-on experience keeping my autism well honed, so instant recognition and immediate buy decisions in the competitive environment come naturally.

I have a refinery an hour away that makes and returns ingots of .9999 anywhere between 1 and 100 ozt, whatever you want (I like kilos), and with no paper trail as they take the fee as a percentage of silver.

I could rub hands in wait for the very best deals, but have been keeping my total price with all fees less than 20/Ozt even now (was less than 14/ozt through May).

It's a great system if you're not a retard, and while I'm not minting 10-baggers, picking up 10-20 lb batches at a time with instant easy retail value 50+% over my costs is pretty solid.

Labrador iron ore royalty is probably better than clf - lifzf for us burgers. If you go in late X will probably be good, they opened up an iron mine. If X has taken off too much, then check NUE. Vale should be a good iron play as well, and NANR or PICK can give you broader exposure. These guys and the transport of iron will probably be huge for at least 10 years. We are likely to literally rebuild China. That's going to need a lot of iron and steel.

You -can- give them back to the same bank, but it's a breach of CRH etiquette. It's much better to find another bank using a different armored car service, both to not piss off your pickup bank, and also to avoid getting back the same garbage you've already sorted through. I received a visit from the police once for sorting half dollars. I had long hair and wore ripped up jeans a lot- I'd go buy 5-800$ in halves every weekend to sort, and Id always dump them at the same bank- which I banked at. (IHMVCU for those of you who are curious, why it's worth knowing in a second) - anyway, did this for months. Got a nice stack of silver clads & some 64s and franklins. Every time I dropped the bulk off there was this one lady who would just stare at me like I shit in her soup. I don't know who she was or why she hated me, maybe because I dressed like a slob, but so did most people in the area. One day a cop shows up
>anon want to ask you a few questions about a robbery
I have no idea what he's talking about - I work, keep to myself, and sort halves. Pretty autistic. Detective lets it slip that someone had their American Eagles stolen. Now it starts to click. The only people I had contact with when sorting halves was the bank- so the detective probably went asking around for anyone who was moving a lot of odd looking coins. The bank GAVE HIM MY FUCKING NAME FOR THE ACT OF SORTING CHANGE. Never had any similar issues with other banks afterwards as I continued my sorting for a few more years. But stay the fuck away from that credit union. Anyways, that's my sorting story.

There is significant risk of deflation as people hoard USD instead of keeping the money moving. That is why the FED is trying to boost inflation. Also keep in mind that while the USD is inflating due to the money printer so is the EURO, CAD, AUS bucks, etc. So it isn't about what USD is doing in a vacuum. It is about what the USD is doing relative to everyone else. And every one else is in a worse position. Which leaves investors with USD as the safe haven. This could come to a head tho when the crisis is "over" and people leave the USD for their local currency again. That would leave a quickly inflating USD.

Yeah, spare time can definitely be used productively. I like refreshing the most recent Buy it Now listings on eBay for good deals, I'm experienced with lots of different antique silver items so know or accurately estimate the weight of many different items and yield from "weighted" sterling items, which are dangerous for noobs as much or most weight is plaster or resin under silver foil. Sterling silverware (dinner knives only have hollow/resin filled handles) is straightforward, same with jewelry without stones, plates, etc. For a noob it's best to look for listings where they give the weight but also have it very underpriced out of ignorance (~30 bucks for 3-5 ounce item deals are relatively common, full silverware chests for a few hundred less common but extremely lucrative). For obviously underpriced non-weighted sterling it's simply a matter of being among the first to see the listings and buy ASAP before another scrapper finds it.

So I can just buy scrap gold and silver and make my own meme coins and bars at home? I got some stuff for casting bullets already. That sounds like a fun hobby.

There may be a large dip soon due to stocks getting absolutely fucked since tech bubble is popping. It would more be people liquidating then anything, so akin to march when it was 12s but you could barely buy any, and premiums will probably prevent the price from going too low.

Interesting times.

yeah it is easy, but getting scrap gold is the hard part.

I try to get it all the time anon but rarely do, I dont even have to refine it, i can get 96% of melt for a 25$ feel to smelt it.

Where you getting scrap gold/silver for cheap? Outside of starting my own I BUY GOLD HIGHEST PRICES business I am not really sure how I can get more supply.

>>22170942
Sure you can, though I get it processed and returned by a legit refinery as market-ready bullion. Total costs are still under 20/Ozt doing that, however I've also stacked up like 20kg of very high quality antique sterling items worth much more as scarce collectibles or quality jewelry than bullion, so don't go melting indiscriminately, you can re-sell the good stuff and get even more silver with the proceeds if you want.

I've got a cheap electric metals furnace and have played around with sterling (and bronze), goal is to make badass silver knuckles based off a quality and aesthetic antique brass knuckles I've got, solid silver daggers (or bladed knuckles) would be sweet too, but I'm still figuring out how to cast things properly currently.

So people are still posting that the comex is going to default, but then whenever nothing happens (like those september deliveries) and newfags start asking >hey, what about that comex default that was supposed to happen?
Every smug anon will pile on them that it was all just a big inside joke, that we all knew it was just a meme, "surely nobody here was silly enough to believe that!", etc. etc.

So we have waves where everyone is calling for it, planning for it, treating it like gospel. And then we have waves where everyone always knew it was a nothingburger. And I have never seen these waves interact with one another, which is what convinces me that it is bullshit. For several days straight the consensus will shift to "nothing will ever happen" and nobody has any response, no youtube talking heads, no nothing. Also this:

PMG isnt one person, some people think it will collapse, others do not.

I personally wouldnt bet on it collapsing, even if every single option stood for delivery, they just settle in fiat.

Wont matter, PMs will preserve if not increase purchasing power through what is to come.

take your meds scitzo, I'm a poorfag stacker like plenty of the other guys on here and I'm just mad that I had a miserable time for the last 2 months stacking as much metal, food, water as I possibly could, because every 3rd post on PMG was saying fiat would collapse in september starting with comex force majeur. It was being posted rampantly and without many people speaking moderation or suggesting why that wouldn't actually happen. So yeah I'm rustled that now most people are smugly acting like we all knew it was just a fairy tail.

I don't regret all the metal I've stacked this year whatsoever, but like I complained about a few days ago, it's retarded that I could have had more metal now if I had just bought TSLA in march and cashed out today.

are you blaming the collective hivemind for being a little off?
you western fucks got so soft it's incredible, you got soft and weak. nature has only one price for weakness.
you are bitching on the imageboard that anons didn't tell you to buy tesla because it pumped so hard. it's hindsight thinking.

metals are a hedge. a bet. bets do not pay off 100% of the time. but just have some patience, look around, not today, not in september, but it's falling apart.
i don't want to be rude to you, you are probably young, just stay focused. what's the worst case? you still have all the PMs that you saved up, it's better than just wasting it on dumb shit, and we are all very good at wasting money.

Im right in the same wagon as you. I hate all of these mother fuckers. On the one hand, the panic is forcing me to prep which i am passionate about anyway. I prep food, water, guns, ammo. I grew up mormon so its how i was raised.

On the other hand these god damn mother fuckers are toxic. Everywhere you go its just a mess of noise and panic retards.

For example corona. In January it was pretty reasonable to think it was going to be a devastating event. I stocked food guns and ammo. Turned out to be a nig fucking nothing.

Now this silver comex thing. Still has tine to play out. I stacked about 100 oz though so now i have a good financial collapse prep.

Thwen the chainlink crypto thing. I mean its every fucking day of " ITS GONNA CRASH!1!!" or "ITS GUNNA PUMP" like jesus Christ. And then, when they actually have the smart con conference theres retards posting "nigger" and pictures of shitting assholes in the chat. Its like damn you guys are all fucking retarded and all you do is just drag everything down into shit. You cant even resist shitting on your own shit.

Meanwhile, the elites and whales who only exist because they "have things" they have the money the wealth the assest, often times through no fault of their own, just luck, are orchestrating the whole god damn thing and just making more and more wealth from it.

Where are normal sane people supposed to go? How are we supposed to accumulate wealth in a reasonable manner. Fuck. Everything is against us and everything is rigged.
