from my understanding, they have 90% of the older workings up to modern standards, because of work done on the mine 10 years ago by a previous operator, so that wont be to much of a problem. They still have to upgrade several existing shafts and underground headframes but that would be for later down the line. The company that will have a harder time with that issue is Bunker Hill Mining. There minesite has been totally dormant for nearly 30 years and will for sure require modernization work.

Honestly I can't remember what the explanation was. I think they were judging off groundwater averages at the closest test wells along with effluent draining from the adit. It was a dry year so I think they thought the shafts would only fill to the same level as groundwater. They didn't listen to the contracted hydrologist, and they obviously didn't drill a well into the adit even though it would've been easy enough to do. Also I think the plug was just loose soil so they thought any significant head would have overcome the plug. There were a bunch of errors all around, which probably only seemed obvious to them in retrospect.

Yeah, we deal with a similar situation at one site we work on. We have engineered bulkheads in the adit and then pumps behind the bulkheads lifting water out of the workings and draining it down to the treatment plant. It'll be a mixed bag. The Aurcana project is a polymetalic mine so the costs will be cushioned by the sale of base metals. I think most of Colorado's silver mines are polymetalic anymore. It just hasn't been economical to go after silver alone for the last 100 years or so here. Not that we don't have enormous silver deposits, but the price has been too low to work them. Even now I'm not sure straight silver mines can afford to open up here. Last I heard we need sustained silver above $50 to open a lot of primary silver deposits.
