there really isnt, per capita guns is on par with US, its just they cook the books a lot and several million guns disappear each time they increase the "common sense™" gun control to the next level of "common sense™"

Its really just the ratio of guns in the wrong hands vs guns in right hands that is different, and not for the better, you will be more isolated, out gunned, and outnumbered by armed crooks up here then you would like.

Gold could hit 10k and silver could hit 100$, and most people would not care one bit, they might see the ticker float by on CNN while they wait at the bank or something, if that.

This idea that everything has to collapse for it to go up in purchasing power is lunacy.

One of the main draws of PM's is the ability of PM's to preserve purchasing power through a collapse. However this is not the only way they preserve or increase purchasing power by far.

Buy metals. The USD is beyond fucked. Real inflation is 10%. Real rates are negative. Fed will keep them there for at least 5 years. The election will be contested and the US will face a constitutional crisis. /smg/ is propped up by the printing as well. The main street/wall street divergence is purely a consequence of Fed money printing. I guess covid is the generic response, but it can also be that they need about a quarter of production at the higher rates to have it reflected in share price.

Maybe the industry is just that hated, that even companies making $$$ hand over fist wont have investors drive the share price up.

this is clown world after all, nothing surprises me

triple dubs nice.

It has been said many many times that miners lag the price, but the historically share prices do go up a lot during good times once a quarter or two goes by at higher prices.

Anyone expecting them to track hasnt been listening.

but for a producing, well run, relatively debt stable company, that made the smart choice and saved silver at 12-18$ to sell it now, like first magestic is still BELOW the share price during that time is kinda bonkers.

It speaks more to who is actually investing then anything, mining is a hated industry, with horrible PR, and it wont be until the institutional investors pile in that retail will pile in and give the 10-20x bags.

miners take on debt every day. Good times or bad. All businesses do.

and again, that profit margin isn't going to shareholders directly. What we do is spend the profits on maintenance and expansion. Exploration. Purchasing other companies.

so if your shares go up in value it's because we reduced debt or took on new assets, not because profits go directly to you.

we can still get loans during hard times, but that's not the sole source of debt.

we have maintenance costs, vendors to pay, taxes, payroll, pensions, licenses, depreciating equipment, buildings, etc. Even mothballed mines run up debt every day just by existing and being owned. Generally all these debts are rounded up and rolled into bank loans or share sales or bond issues, but the debt piles up. Especially for a mine that's not producing anything.

from my understanding, they have 90% of the older workings up to modern standards, because of work done on the mine 10 years ago by a previous operator, so that wont be to much of a problem. They still have to upgrade several existing shafts and underground headframes but that would be for later down the line. Honestly I can't remember what the explanation was. I think they were judging off groundwater averages at the closest test wells along with effluent draining from the adit. It was a dry year so I think they thought the shafts would only fill to the same level as groundwater. They didn't listen to the contracted hydrologist, and they obviously didn't drill a well into the adit even though it would've been easy enough to do. Also I think the plug was just loose soil so they thought any significant head would have overcome the plug. There were a bunch of errors all around, which probably only seemed obvious to them in retrospect.

Yeah, we deal with a similar situation at one site we work on. We have engineered bulkheads in the adit and then pumps behind the bulkheads lifting water out of the workings and draining it down to the treatment plant. The EPA's series of fuck-ups was a pretty good reminder of why we do things the way we do.

It'll be a mixed bag. The Aurcana project is a polymetalic mine so the costs will be cushioned by the sale of base metals. I think most of Colorado's silver mines are polymetalic anymore. It just hasn't been economical to go after silver alone for the last 100 years or so here. Not that we don't have enormous silver deposits, but the price has been too low to work them. Even now I'm not sure straight silver mines can afford to open up here. Last I heard we need sustained silver above $50 to open a lot of primary silver deposits.

$50 figure is about right but it's a moving target. The other issue is that sales of base metals are going to get weird as their could be a surplus of it in the market with lowered economic activity. It's a giant 'watch this space' going forward - exciting stuff. I suspect if these types of mines get off the ground it's going to benefit the locals greatly... give them opportunities again and not just mining. I've visited heaps of ghost mining towns and they were vibrant for many years and the reason for many of the closures were not actually metal price... wars were the predominant reason. Looking at the old photos and seeing some of the surviving buildings that have been renovated... makes you really wonder about were it all went wrong. I am hopeful. And, hey, if the mine needs $50 for silver to work and the market is there that's just a new floor on the market. But this time it's a money floor. $50 will be the new $5. Cost of silver mining has really gone way up in the last 20 years.

The fed and government intervention is the reason why housing is so expensive for the poor and middle class. We don't have anything close to a free market at all, a free market would mean massive reductions in housing costs. People's rents are going up too and dumb commies blame capitalism for the problem.

If he melts them down, he will lose money because potential buyers won’t be able to easily check the metal content.

If he keeps them in their original form and especially if there’s a manufacturer’s name on them, it should make it easy to check their silver content, plus they will keep their utility as the objects they currently are. Same reason it’s a bad idea to melt coins or bars yourself, no-one will have any idea what the silver content is, you could be debasing the metal with literally anything and there’s no way for an ordinary person to tell.

tl;dr yes silverware is generally a less valuable form of silver then bars or coins, but there is no advantage to be gained from melting them down.

I have 8k worth of gold and silver (physical). Another 8k in miners and PHYS + PSLV. A few boomer stocks (BRK.B).

I'm not sure if the inflation is going to happen in a few months or a decade, I always thought after 2008 we'd see a huge problem from all that QE, but, seems the bubble hasn't popped. I can totally see this happening. Just like what happened with Oil.

In oil's case people didn't want it because the storage costs would have been too much so the price had to go negative to convince buyers to take delivery.

In this case paper contracts or the price you see on trading view could go to zero as people panic when they realize it is not possible to get physical silver from the paper contracts they hold.

The other side to the equation is all the shorts can get out of their positions with huge dollar profits as one last fuck you to the longs and the longs end up getting paid out minimally for their contracts AND they get no metal just before watching the price of physical absolutely rocket to The Moon.

If everyone stopped playing the paper games the manipulation would end this month.

Yeah. The Economist is a liberal globalist paper, but they are often pretty balanced on economic topics and are one of the few mainstream publications questioning the monetary and fiscal policy in place right now. Some of the older ones are great to listen to also.

Well, despite all the fuckery it keeps bouncing back bigger. Just hold. The demand for silver will catch up. The world's tech consumption keeps growing. If you're watching the ticker you can tell it's being pushed down because the speed of change increases infinitely when it hits resistance- they're having trouble pushing it below 27.30.

Accumulate while they are cheap. Miners are still selling on the comex but once they realise the comex is a scam they will be able to negotiate contracts off the exchange direct with mints and investors to sell their metal for a higher price. That's my take anyway

doubt it, most do not trade paper contracts with any intention of taking delivery, they just want to flip it to make a buck.

There are multiple scenarios already playing out, right now, that will lead to PM's mooning, regardless of a comex default. Default is possible, but not likely, those contracts simply do not care if they are paid out in fiat, since that is exactly what they want.

Maybe try growing a pair of balls and making your own homeland better instead of trying to rat out to another.

we should probably be watching finviz. this literally might be big guys picking up a hedge on the miners that they're purchasing. AG showed up on a good number of 13f. filings. Sprott getting out was likely selling into strength and moving into areas without big investment to shed some volatility risk.
