It's a large part of why spot on Au/Ag dropped, because, most probably JPM, dumped their whole "holdings" into the paper market, driving down futures prices and tanking spot alongside them. Aside from the asinine buy-in on PM futures contracts, if you wait 30 days, and those contracts are trading below spot, that's the better deal - that's the big boys who drive the actual prices.

JPM can do this over and over again, because they're trading on paper and nobody really stands for delivery. More importantly they can manipulate prices up or down.

You're proposing a "poor man's covered call" and it's a great move for writing covered calls without having to buy 100 shares of a stock. As long as you've done the due diligence on the underlying stock and don't mind holding the deep ITM LEAPS call just like you would hold the stock then you have no reason not to do the diagonal on it. Just remember you want the long call to mimic the price activity of the underlying so you want a high delta, at least 80 and you want the expiration date to be at least a year or two out. That way even if implied volatility suddenly changes you don't have to worry about your premium fluctuating much since most of the premium will be intrinsic value. You'll make it
