Help me /biz/

I recently came in to about $5000 and realized there would never be a better time for me to dip my toe into the stock market. Where do I even get started with it? As absurd a statement as it is, I trust the anons here more than a beginners course at business school or "How to stocks for adulting adults" tutorial on the internet. Does /biz/ have any advice for someone without any knowledge or experience investing money, that wants to learn? Should I just lurk here for months? Am I a retard who should just repost this in /smg/?

Set up a paper only/spreadsheet portfolio. Pretend you put the $5k (keeping that as emergency money) and play like it’s real until you’re comfortable. Thank me later

Don't invest in crypto without knowing why - you'll lose your money.

Open a brokerage account through an actual broker firm - TD Ameritrade or Vanguard (NOT ROBINHOOD), then throw it into SPY or VOO (S&P 500 Index Funds) and do some research, and when you feel ready, you can break the index fund into stocks you are confident in.

Don't use Robinhood because you will be far more tempted to make poor decisions due to ease of use.

And finally, don't stop putting more in, even if it's only a little each month.

I know you just told me not to use Robinhood due to ease of access but do you trust Robinhood itself? Just how legit is it?
