not sure how other countries did it but in the US we minted gold, silver, copper, and nickel coins. All of them disappeared from circulation almost immediately after being released because people hoarded metal.

so then we did business with bank checks, IOU's, tokens, and credit.

we kept doing that until gold and silver couldn't be found anywhere in trade outside of banks and national treaties. Then we crashed the silver market and did business in silver that was worth less than the gold or copper it pretended to trade with. Finally we converted to nickel, steel, copper, and lately zinc coins that are worth far less than the gold they presumably could buy.

but at no point in our history did gold freely circulate, and silver only rarely did after we made it worthless.

we don't need it to "freely circulate" we need it to be used when necessary and have a standard by which to judge value. That's what a "gold standard" is. We need set values to the price of gold so the Fed bankers can't just print a trillion dollars whenever they wanna buy a new boat.

Except we live in the era of digital banking transactions. How do you think banks handle moving the cash they're required to keep on hand from one account to another? Do you actually think that they're sending couriers with 1.49 to Quick Mart's bank every time you buy a coke on the same day? Accounts are settled by seeing what the net changes are over weeks or even monthly, and then moving cash. And if you converted your bullion mass into a digital neo dollar account with banks moving ounces to mg of your metal to settle accounts at the end of the month, that's not as crazy as it sounds.

Lets say that silver was revalued at $4000/oz in terms of current buying power. 1 cent of buying power would be represented by 1/400,000 troy oz, which is 0.0777 mg of silver. Obviously this is a tiny sum. But it isn't outside the range of accuracy of extremely sensitive analytical balances, and even if it were, they could just round up a penny or so until it became manageable to measure again. They already want to just round pennies up to the nearest 5 cent increment anyway.

The real meme way to dole out microgram amounts of silver would be via dilute solutions of silver salts, but that's pretty stupid.

yes, but at the level of the people. As you point out the government absolutely doesn't want to get rid of fiat. The forces are exactly reversed. People want the gov to be limited, not them. The government wants the exact opposite. This is a great scenario for a revolution, but that's exactly what it would take to change things. Not just in one nation, but all of them at the same time.

Fiat isn't going to be replaced because the elites feel like it, it's going to be replaced because there is no way to continue the scam. they are running out of people to sell debt to, and inflation is reaching a tipping point. you can't keep printing trillions for very long before normal people start feeling the theft. when people can't buy bread with a 20$ bill they are going to get really, really angry.

>> No.22043416

you're probably right

but what you guys propose is just another form of fiat with a pretend metal backing. It has to be otherwise we run into the problems we had before- other countries printing their own fiat and then using it to buy all our gold and silver off the market.

Two questions
1) do you think that in the event of a currency reset in which PMs get revalued to the moon, they would try and charge capital gains tax on anyone who tries to liquidate a gold coin for 50,000 nubucks?

2) where should I hide my PMs at home?? Every time I think I have a spot, I second guess myself
>guitar case
"what if they think I have a valuable guitar and steal the case"
>box of random cables, wires and old AV stuff
"what if they think there's something valuable in here like a stereo and steal it??"
>old pizza box in the basement
"what if they like pizza?!"
I don't have anywhere out - of - site to put a safe, nor anywhere I could bolt one down. So that would just be a big sign, "hey robbers I left all of my valuables in this nice case for you!"
Maybe I'll just bring my stack over to my parents house...

>>22043428
2. does your home get broken into often?

30 years detecting 40 hours per week 9 months a year. Silver is extremely rare in Western ghost towns. I've only ever found one gold coin, and I gave it to the ex wife. I've got a few pounds of V nickels and indian heads and other assorted old pennies and nickels.

>that's extremely specific. where do you do this at?
Old ghost towns in central Colorado. I'm not actually looking for gold or silver though. I'm after the antique saloon and whorehouse tokens because they're generally worth more than gold. I find an average of one per month, so it's not a paying gig. Just a hobby in my retirement. Also I almost never manage to sell what I find because I like it too much, but sometimes I'll sell off a token if I find multiples.

Newfag to /biz/
Never had any money because medfag.
Now, at 26 years I'll finally start earning some money as a scrub.
I want to invest in something to at least not be fucked over by inflation.
Crypto feels like a bubble waiting to burst. I do think there's money to be made there if you're lucky to bet on the next "google" but the odds of landing your money on the winner are slim no matter how much research you do.
Stock market return on investment is said to fall in the coming years to 5% average per year, which either barely beats inflation by 1% or loses to it depending on how things go. Besides, a bear market is looming and no one knows when it will come.
This leads me to precious metals. They go up in value during an economic crisis, so it feels like buying now is the equivalent of buying high. Even so, does it beat inflation?

well silver about doubled in the last couple months because of the US financial crisis and stimulus response.

I don't think the US financial crisis or stimulus is anywhere close to being finished. Personally I think silver in particular is set to beat inflation hugely. Gold has less room to grow but should beat inflation as well. We're also seeing a drop in production, but that's overmatched by a drop in industrial consumption.

I can't tell you what to buy, I'm an idiot at investing. But the smart money seems to be in silver and gold right now.

Metals are high posed for a financial collapse of fiat due to hyperinflation especially the USD. Best to get some just in case.
Cryptos are booming because of yield farming in defi which is basically a rug pull waiting to happen. Aave's lend for example does nothing and isn't really needed to interact with the platform.

I find it funny that us precious metal holders are people who will contrary to most people who are going to get wiped out by inflation and the death of fiat currency are infact going to profit immensely from it.

Not only that we are literally the free market mechanism that ensures precious metals will recirculate to the general population because I know many of us once the dollar will die and gold and silver return to sensible valuations will then have the capital to purchase houses, cars, vacations, land, whores, food and drink e.c.t

this will directly give the common man a means with which he will obtain gold and silver. This is the invisible hand of the free market still working in the shadows.

The profit/opportunity of buying precious metals ensures that the free market chosen money of choose gold and silver will inevitable return to it's rightful valuation. It really is amazing how us stacking precious metals is us simply being another force of the free market.

Yeah, but not in the new stuff, which takes a higher portion of income. "adjusted for inflation" cell phones are probably like 95-99.9% cheaper than they were in 1999. Cars can't even be compared to what they were in 1980. It's really not something you can figure out with any degree of certainty.

I've been an Apmex guy since I started stacking early last year. I was lucky to get in when silver was $15/toz and the Apmex price for ASE's was just over $17, so I have no regrets. However, in this new market, price-over-spot matters more than ever.

There are tens of thousands of different factors that are going to influence the actual purchasing power of precious metals once the dollar dies.

One thing to consider is that a world where the USD is dead and most fiat currencies are in the process of dying is going to be very volatile. The end of the USD as the global reserve basically means the end of the global economy and world order as we know it.

Have you guys read the books or listened to the presentations given by Peter Zeihan? He gives a rough approximation of what the world is going to look like in the future.

That's how you calculate the value of dollars. Cell phones and cars are capital goods that didn't exist in their current forms 20 years ago. Straight inflation adjustment over that time period is literally impossible because you have to assign numerical values to consumer preferences that will have error rates larger than the yoy change in the money supply for most years. Getting paid 1/10th of an ounce of silver in 1300 is hundreds to thousands times less than getting paid that dollar amount today, if you remove housing costs. In 1300 that soldier would have gone to the store to buy actual wheat that was produced at around 1/1000th the output/labor hour than we have now. That soldier today would have bought refined flour and sugar.

This is something that is not possible to figure out with any remote degree of accuracy

This. The phrase
>if you remove housing costs
is kind of telling. Inflation should ONLY be calculated by determining using essentials like housing, healthcare, food, energy. Sure, use a large basket so that productivity gains in a particular good doesn't impact too much, but inflation should be apparent in the basket as a whole. We've been running actual inflation of at least 5% and it's about to get much worse.

The way I look at it is that every ounce of silver is 10+ full days of unskilled labour in roman times. With less then a tenth of a ounce a roman labourer would feed his family, pay his rent, pay his taxes and such.

100 ounces of silver is I think what a roman soldier would make from 5 full years on campaign not including bonuses and keep in mind that a roman soldier would buy his own equipment with his wages. so what a roman soldier would be expected to retire from would be land granted to him from conquest and his years of wages.

That's why I would think 10000 ounces is a make it stack, after all 10000 ounces of silver is roughly 300+ years of manual labor for a ancient laborer.

I would recommend getting some generic bars of silver and a tube of silver coins to see what form you like better.

I mean silver is used in medicine due to it's anti-bacterial properties, it's used in industry in batteries and electronics and it's been used as money for thousands of years.

And a ounce of silver is worth a family meal at KFC.

I agree with this in case of fiat collapse.

When fiat collapses anything physical will be a store of value because supply lines will be all fucked up, but silver and gold will be the only non-degradable stores of value and so they will continue to be the standard used for large purchases of land, etc.

If the monetary system really collapses stuff like guns and gas will be valuable but so will anything like shovels or other tools or seeds or livestock etc. And if you want to buy say, 100 animals instead of 1 or 2, silver or gold would make sense to use. We’re living in a weird technological bubble of time.

I can assure you that they're not. I searched bank-rolled boxes myself, and found a fair bit of silver in them: about 3 rolls' worth of 40%, and about a roll's worth of 90% (all Kennedys, one being a pretty trashed 1992-S silver proof).

That said, I was going through two boxes of half dollars per week at the time, and a lot of them had no silver, sometimes only a half from a proof set that someone broke apart and traded for face. It really is a numbers game. After all, if you just suddenly went outside and tried to pan your local dirt and found no gold, would you say PAN MAN was a scammer? Absolutely not. You'd just be in the wrong area. Same thing with coin roll hunting. What you searched was nothing to someone dedicated to it. All the change you collected has been through a bunch of machines, some of which reject silver, like Coinstar machines do.

Your best bet if you really want to get silver at face is to gather up $500 in currency, go down to one of your banks and ask them to order/sell you a box of half dollars. Make sure they're sealed when you get them, and after hunting through them, take them to a DIFFERENT bank to trade in for the currency again. Outside of that, you can always ask if they have customer-wrapped rolls, as those can be absolutely amazing if some zombie dumped a bunch of Constitutional off, or have absolutely nothing if they're a hunter's dump. If you're actually dedicated to it, it becomes a matter of when, not if.

But if it does I will thank the jewish central bankers for giving me the chance to stack such cheap silver.

This time in history is truly without equal, just imagine.
While fiat currencies have been used in history, it hasn't come at the same time while precious metals were actively being suppress. So much so that the average person on the street would rather have a chocolate bar rather then a 10 ounce bar of silver.

So not only is gold and silver extremely undervalued, but the fiat currency their value is measured in is being printed in the trillions to pay for government spending in a worldwide pandemic whilst both the democrats and the republicans are both becoming socialists.

It really is the perfect storm for people that own precious metals.

Silver Kings ~ 5 Tons

Silver Dukes ~ 10000 oz

Silver Counts ~ 5000 oz

Silver Barons ~ 1000 oz

Silver Knights ~ 100 oz

Silver Peasants ~ 10 oz or less

Surf ~ Fiat

>I feel like 5000 ounces of silver is a real suicide stack.
then you are an idiot. A suicide stack is by definition small. It's just small enough so that you can still get some good money out of it and not commit suicide for missing the boat entirely. A suicide stack is like 100 ounces of silver.
>1000 ounces is a comfortable life in the countryside never having to worry about anything financially
exactly. That's making it. not having to worry about anything financially is making it.

Absolutely. Check RobFindsTreasure on JewTube. He has next-to-no luck with quarters (I keep telling him to stop wasting his time on them), kinda okay luck with dimes (but they're so small it's not much silver), but far, FAR better luck with halves.

You also probably had a bunch of nickels and pennies which had absolutely zero chance of silver, so that fucked you over too.
