Thanks OP this made my day

Spoonfeed for all of the newfags:
Since the beginning chainlink/smartcontract have tried to make a product that is integrated with legacy systems rather than competing with them. Openlaw and Accord are groups setting legally compliant standards for smart contracts. This allows people who already write/use standard contracts to seamlessly use standardized legal boilerplate language that writes code on the back end and uses link/arbitrum or link/ethereum for execution.

This is massively giant in that it gives Chainlink via MSFT control of the smartcontract flow. By default link's oracles, apis and execution layer will be used. If you want to use another system sure, but nobody will change the defaults and for all intents and purposes the entire smart contract economy will be contained within link.

this is just a office add-in
that anyone can publish and make
that tweet is incredibly misleading, it's not at the fingertips of 1b+ users
it's at the fingertips of users who go to the microsoft store and download the 3rd party add-in
https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/partners
anyone can create one and submit one
and many do, just like the shopify app store for 3rd party apps
this has nothing to do with microsoft and everything to do with openlaw

>seamlessly use standardized legal boilerplate language that writes code on the back end and uses link/arbitrum or link/ethereum for execution
I am actually a lawyer and I have even worked extensively with these "legal tech" sort of people over many years.

I can tell you without a doubt that this integration you're promoting right now is completely ridiculous and has absolutely zero real world use for at least 10 years.

There is no such thing as "legal boilerplate" in the way that you think of it. There is no "standard" way of "writing code" to the backend OF "legal boilerplate". These things are all ridiculous abstractions that are several several tech breakthroughs away from even potentially happening (mostly in the field of natural language processing honestly).

Any half decent lawyer would be able to absolutely shred the entire concept of an "automated execution" of supposedly legal language in a second. You're actually making legal contract execution even less efficient by inputting an entire extra layer of abstraction/interpretation that lawyers can argue against. In that aspect I welcome this supposed integration (that won't be used by anyone, seriously).

Most business executives will realize how untenable "automated contracts" are as soon as they get fucked with the first lawsuit under them. Executives do not treat contracts as unfortunate bottlenecks to endure - they treat them as battlegrounds to draft the absolute best and most favorable language for the 500,000 eventualities that could arise out of a contract. You literally do not have any sort of program even approaching that ability to automate natural language. Once the first company gets fucked from trying this literal shittech that'll be the end of that.

Seriously just actually meet any of these "legal tech" people IRL. Literally they are ALL failed attorneys with no skills who are coping by trying to be techy and edgy. The OpenLaw guy is no different I literally know him.

I realize this gets said over and over, but it really isn't true.

Contracts are just a relationship put into writing. To say that transactional law is getting automated is the equivalent of saying that RELATIONSHIPS are getting automated.

If you have literally equivalent relationships among all people, sure, that can be automated. But the second there is any change or negotiation whatsoever how do you code for that? What takes the legal authority - the code or the natural language?

Did a lawyer write the code? Who is responsible for what it says? Do you know how many different actions can arise from even a medium-complexity contract? Did you code for all of those considerations?

This stuff is basically as theoretical as early day Ethereum and you people on this board act like it's already a done deal.

Just look up any of the research in natural langauge processing. There's a reason words are the Jew's preferred mechanism as >>21876894 insinuates.

There's about 5,000 ways any given contract can be interpreted and it is extremely naive to think you can "automate" that. Again, all that does is create TWO major ways to litigate every relationship: the contract and the code.

As a lawyer with a CS background I don't give a fuck, sounds great to me. But it's fucking dumb if you actually think this will fix anything.

So what is the point? You're going to have lawsuits about the "interpretation" of python versus English?

Do you know how much more complex and robust the English language is versus literally any other programming language? You treat that as a negative because it's "less efficient" or something, but this is literally how business WANT to conduct themselves.

You might understand if you actually had experience with large sums of money negotiating relationships with other parties. You would WANT the ability to very, very particularly describe relationships with your counterparty which contemplated 5000 other scenarios and the exact actions you would take should that scenario happen.

Do you REALLY think that businesses even WANT to render important relationships into a significantly less robust form of a python version of a contract versus an admittedly long but very, very tightly negotiated English form of the contract?

I see these "legal tech" faggots getting all excited about "coding" the equivalent of a vending machine transaction and all you idiots proclaim it's the end of lawyers.

Take a relatively simple FORTY PAGE contract of any software or service, and try to code ALL EVENTUALITIES that could possibly arise under that contract.

And you will know within 10 minutes how fucking stupid this idea is.

I won't but Jews probably will take advantage of it another layer to explore and exploit.
Again:
> Businesses don't want to save money
They don't really have a choice if they want to remain competitive post COVID.
> Determinism is better
Yes.
> again Biz. must remain competitive to survive
It's the beginning of the end of needing to devote excessive resources to lawyers yes.
Problems that need to be elevated to needing lawyers don't occur as often as you think. This is more about speeding up regular business practices. We can always fall back on lawyers if needed.
Every advancement was stupid before adoption anon. Once the lemmings accept it it becomes normal regardless if still stupid.

I win either way. If crypto wins, I'm very invested in the space. If "legal tech" wins, I already know coding so I don't care. If it loses, I'm already an attorney.

I just hate legal tech faggots and now LINKmarines are part of that. It's really astonishing how little people understand about lawyers if you honestly think anything but the bare bones most simplest relationship could be automated in the near future.

It's actually hilarious how impossible it is. The entire court system exists because interpreting English in a universally accepted fashion is impossible.

But I'm sure there won't be a problem translating all of English to Javascript! ;-)

Checked. Truth. Business do not go to court everytime they invoice another company but don't deliver. They sort it out amongst themselves until escalation is required and at that point it's probably cheaper and easier just to use something else rather than dragging it out to small claims court or whatever. Every single interaction will be standardized and normalized so that all parties will be in the know.
