I wouldw even limit it to conservative countries, necessarily. I've lived in the Caribbean and it was the norm there too. one of my best friend's lived in a pool house at his parents, it was pretty chill.

it kinda makes sense anyway, you can save up money so when you get married you are all set.

If it's a large house where you can have some proper privacy then I'd say it's ok to live there until like 30 if you are saving money, but I'm 20, in uni and live with my Mother in a 3 room apartment. Got $300k in LINK so when that turns into $400k I'm gonna move out so I can have some privacy and am able to completely control every aspect of my daily life so I could have a nice routine without some bs occuring and wasting the whole day on that. Currently I can't even go have a smoke or crack a beer without my Mother noticing. Can't have quiet when the walls don't keep quiet. Yea I might spend $20k per year living on my own, but at last I'll live in a nicer place and be able to direct my energy more efficiently.

I realize that this is done in a lot of other countries, but in the US and Europe it is just cringe. In this society a man shows his financial stability and personal competency by living on his own before starting a family. Before the boomer generation ruined things this used to work since it wasn't nearly as hard to save up for a house while working in your 20's.

>> No.21826517

This. Thankfully I work near my home and can stay with my parents. No point in moving out when I'm single and get to spend time with my parents. Seems pointless to jerk myself off in my own apartment alone surrounded by toys when I'd much rather make aggressive investments with my extra income.

If this is the situation, get out. Living is worth more than that.

If it's not, then...you only get limited time on this Earth with your parents anyway. They hopefully loved you and don't mind additional bonding. Why would you pay a landlord 1000 dollars a month so you can be apart from your family?

Living with your parents/family, paying little rent, is fine. I plan on buying a large house and letting my children do the same.

>> No.21831356

A single guy owning a house is definitely a waste. Only reason to buy a house is to start a family with your wife. If you're single, live with your parents until marriage as the article says (what I'm doing actually) or rent.

Is there a parent that isn't a control freak and abnormally autistic and annoying? I lived with my parents in law for 3 years. They drove my wife into a near mental break down. I would have stayed for the cheap rent but all parents I've known are borderline insane and will talk at you about their boomer first world problems for hours. I have yet to ever see a boomer show respect to their grown kids.

Yes and no. Owning land is a really smart Idea because it should retain it's value better than fiat at least. It's also a good stepping stone in life to have your own place to live, but you don't necessarily need to own it. I think buying to let is kind of a meme. It isn't as 'safe' as people would assume. Maintenance eats into your profit, bills, mortgage etc. Also there are lots of laws protecting tenants, but not many protecting landlords when things go wrong.
