Works great over here in the EU where you actually get a proper price mechanism to work on to indirectly make people pay for polluting, puts a market price on pollution and it does wonders for incentives for companies to invest in a reduction in pollution for a cost reduction

And should people not be held responsible for their actions by buying a product they know pollutes by compensating for a negative externality created by a polluting industry?
Because this is a very efficient way of making people pay for polluting and allowing the market to price the right to pollute to put a proper price in pollution.
Great incentive to become less polluting as a company if it were to allow you to attract new potential customers who care about that and offer a lower price if the investment in greener capital makes you more productive to the point where the benefit of not having to pay the right to pollute or somewhat less outweigh the cost of acquiring the new greener capital

Exciting Thursday! Usually Thursday tend to be green but we had a very unexpected green day after a sharp rug pull yesterday at around 11AM right after Apple crossed the $2 trillion evaluation!

Just woke up from my nap after market close, and about to order some Domino's to celebrate. What toppings should I get? Also, Tesla's leg up today was really a sight to behold! Personally I wrote 1DTE NVDA spreads on open as soon as I saw that NASDAQ futures recovered overnight from -0.8% to -0.2% or so. Thankfully it worked out and NVDA seems to be crabbing at $480-490 while IV gets crushed.

What are your plans for tomorrow? Any 0DTE shenanigans? How about moves for Monday? Personally, I'm not going to write Monday SPY spreads because the stimulus still hasn't passed. I feel like the market might react in a dumb way over a weekend with August ending and no stimulus bill in sight.

According to your argument the Industrial Revolution with its few tens of thousands of factories with the world's 900 million population was powerful enough to disrupt the world's climate balance. So not only would we somehow need to go back to 19th century "emissions" levels, we would need to be significantly negative beyond that to do anything. Pro tip for the newbs: if you want to know where the market thinks a stock's price is likely to be in the future, pull up the options chain and look for the expiration date you want to see the expected price for. Find the at the money call then double the premium you see there. Add that number to the current price and that is where the market thinks your stock will be at that time if the market goes up. Do the same but substitute the put ATM for where the market thinks there's a 50% chance the price will be should it go down.
Example: TQQQ currently trades at $139.35. The ATM call premium for Oct 16th is $16. Double that for $32. This is the arithmetic for using volatility to deduce the market thinks TQQQ has a 50% chance of reaching $139.35 + $32 or $171.35 on Oct. 16th.
If you pull up Tradingview and look at where the trajectory of the price is you'll see that $171.35 makes a lot of sense for that date. Of course a strongly trending security like TQQQ is not that hard to eyeball. Fortunately the trick also works well for stuff like, oh I don't know, GSX. Test it and see.
So, what is this good for? One thing is when you are opening bull call spreads, make sure the strike price of the short leg isn't higher than where the market realistically expects the price to go. That way you don't give away profit or short yourself on premium.

Thanks, but I'll stick to weeklies. The market in a broader term is too volatile in the current state of things for me to comfortably write a spread for something like October 16. Being able to quickly enter and exit spreads is part of being successful in this environment.

problem with trailing stop is your broker probably won't allow you to set it too low. With the current volality, a trailing stop 5%-10% behind may as well be a market sell order that kicks you out prematurely from potentially more gains..
Better to adjust a stop loss manually according to your targets and what the resistance/support levels are predicted to be

Checked. Here's one more before I get off here.
Imagine you buy a call with 3 months to expiration but a bit after you buy it the stock starts trending lower. Eventually it gets bad enough you start to doubt whether it can recover enough to break even let alone profit. Your choices are just sell but you think the price can recover just not in time. Or you can buy another call lower however this doesn't really help the call you are currently in and another call is just another trade.
Here's a third option that lowers your break even significantly and doesn't cost you any more money. Turn the call you originally bought into a bull call spread. Sell two calls at the strike price you originally bought the one at. Take the proceeds from the sell of those and open a long call lower down that has the same premium as the two you sold. Your former call is now a spread with a much lower break even and you didn't have to spend a dime extra.
This is a good strategy when a trade goes against you but you still have hope yet are realistic that it probably isn't going to make it to your strike in time. You don't have to bother with rolling out to a later expiration either. And the last upshot is you are now likely to make profit

I always kind of wondered what if every citizen got "stock" in their name at birth and earned "dividends" by being invested in the country that they could reap as an adult. People protest capitalism because they feel they don't get any benefit when all the gains go to the top. If every "citizen" were a "shareholder" then they would feel invested in the outcome of their society. It's like profit sharing on a national scale.

i repeat the same shills points before but it's all based on Samsung fucking up.
First, their yields are shit which is why they fucked up the Qualcomm order.
Second, their transistor density is lower than TSM's, i.e. samsung's 8 nm's is comparable to TSM's 10 nm and so on. From what I remember, NVDA is using samsung chips for their lower end shit, and the only reason they got them in the first place is because TSM's capacity is limited and Samsung undercutted TSM a lot just to stay relevant with NVDA.
Third, they're basically skipping a node size to 3 nm when they're still having a lot of issues with yields on bigger nodes. Intel tried to skip a node size too and look how that turned out, just carried over existing issues they're still trying to fix.

Meanwhile TSM is flexing on the rest of the world with the news a couple days ago.
https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/313940-cerebras-wafer-packs-2-6-trillion-transistor-cpu-with-850000-cores
Something like that is only possible with a very very high yield. KInda funny considering AMD rose to prosperity because they were doing a chiplet design that goes around shitty yields (so even if you have imperfections in a wafer, you can just combine chiplets together) but looking at these news, I wonder if they really need to do that when TSM is capable of turning the entire wafer into a single functional chip.

i wish I could just stop myself from looking at how much TSM fluctuates day-to-day because I'm not gonna do anything anyways until a couple years later.

just to add to that, if Samsung fucks up, TSM has no competitors. A $150 price target is very fair and probably an underestimation if TSM really ends up becoming the sole supplier of cutting edge semiconductors.

Some people are concerned about China catching up to the race with their resources, but I'm only slightly worried because they're barred from obtaining western semiconductor equipment (ASML being the huge one, no one else makes EUVL equipment). Mainland chinese semiconductors are restricted to immersion lithography as a result, and so the best they can achieve will comparable to Intel's efforts. By the time they get 7 nm up (assuming they can even reach decent yields), TSM will already be at 3 nm. Keep in mind that TSM is already at volume production with 5 nm, and they'll expand capacity significantly with 5 nm with the US plant finishing in 2023.

also knowing mainland china, they'll probably cut corners and fuck up somewhere. This is the same country that will build fire doors that lead to a fatal drop, or skyscrapers built with concrete from sea sand (ticking time bomb). Never mind all the other shit.

taiwan is also now so vital to the rest of the world that it's practically impossible for china to try and invade/assimilate them now. Taiwan, the country itself, is basically the semiconductor industry.

The general market don't understand what semiconductors, and TSM was moving with financial news that don't really affect its fundamentals. Maybe TSM dips down under $70 in the end, but if Samsung continues to fall behind, the rest of the market won't be able to keep ignoring it when TSM keeps pumping out impressive growths for a manufacturer.

just don't go all in into TSM, it's just another solid bluechip to put some money in. I hold a lot of TSM but I have my exposure on the rest of tech shit through QQQ. If I wasn't a pussy, I'd be holding AMD and NVDA too but their volatility scares me. Their PE ratios don't matter in this market, especially with the speed of their growth.

Robinhood does indeed prevent you from making 0DTE buys. And they also force you to close your position if it's too close to the risk of being assigned, 1 hour before expiration. For prolific options users, I would not recommend Robinhood - but I use it anyways because the UI is simple and I can use it at work with no troubles. I was asking if others do 0DTE though.

And yeah, I play with 10-20% of my portfolio on spreads. It's a hefty chunk but as you can see most of them are pretty conservative strikes.

I'd take half the salary and no benefits for half the work hours. Sadly not many "professional" jobs hire for 20 hours a week.

I am happier and it gives me time for hobbies like investing, reading, and lifting. It's hard to explain to people that leisure time pays dividends. If you waste your whole life at work trying to look busy then you have no time or energy to invest in yourself.

It always drove me mad when I was stuck at work running out the clock to fulfill some arbitrary hours requirement on a timesheet when I could be at home learning a new skill or doing something useful. It feels like wasting your life and your youth. Those are hours you won't get back. I value my time *immensely* more than my wage. Any job that offers a vacation buy I take the max and wish I could buy more.

What I was getting at in the post was a quick way to see what the market thinks is a realistic price for your stock at any given time by looking at the ATM option premium for the time frame in question. So if you wanted to see what the market thinks is the likely price of TQQQ in a week you look at the weekly option that expires on the day in question and double the ATM premium then add that to the current price of TQQQ. This gives you the market's projected price.
ATM premium is the purest proxy for the markets expected volatility for a given point in time. Since there is a 50% chance of the price going up or down, you have to double the premium to get the 50% chance of any particular direction.
The way you use this information in your bull call spreads is simply make sure when you open your spread, the strike price for the leg you sell isn't higher than what the market thinks the price is likely to be on the date of expiration which you can easily check by doing the calculation above.
This is helpful as it keeps you from choosing a strike that is unrealistically high thus fucking yourself out of premium you could have sold for or setting the strike too low and fucking yourself out of gains you would have ended up with at expiration.
Note the choice of October as my example earlier was arbitrary. The trick works for any expiration date even for years in the futures. Like right now the Jan 21, 2022 ATM call premium for SOXL is $86.55 and SOXL today closed at $240.87
With these two facts we know the market thinks there is a 50% chance of SOXL closing at the price of 40.87 + (86.55 * 2) or $413.97 on January 21, 2022.

>Sadly not many "professional" jobs hire for 20 hours a week.
That's the truth and it drives me nuts. I would like to work between 20 and 30 hours a week. Current job allows that but they also screw me sometimes but only scheduling me for a single day or two days some weeks. It's a tricky balance to work but work less than the proscribed 40.

verify the DD yourself and figure out what level you'd really be comfortable with. I definitely have half my portfolio in TSM right now but I got in early and I don't mind if it dips below $70 short-term.
I hesitate to recommend to anyone having more than 25% of your portfolio in a single pick unless you're confident yourself.
