>This assumes that currencies have a measurable value
I mean they do. Most things do.
The price is what others willing to pay or give you for it. A Euro is 1.2 dollars for example.
>You are trusting the Federal Government, Treasury. and the Federal Reserve with maintaining a paper note that absolutely does not have a limited supply.
Neither does gold, as more and more ounces are mined each year. Though gold naturally can not yet be mined out of space for another hundred years and has a limited supply on earth, both economical and physical in nature.

The fact remains that gold is in itself not worth anything. Just like a rock. Its people giving that rock value. And its value will only increase or even stay stable if people think holding the asset will be profitable, whether by itself or part of a risk strategy. The reason people buying EUR for USD is because they believe in that asset being safe, the same goes for gold. If people would decide that platinum is prettier and that gold offers no value to their portfolio then gold would drop.
>Dollars are a currency at best, and worthless at worst. So, cicling back...
The same goes for gold. Gold has no inherent value. It will not work for you. It does not feed you. It sits there and looks pretty.
>Gold in itself has the value of a rock that can be used as money.
I think were both coming to the same conclusion here desu
Its just that you think the risk of the USD imploding is higher than I believe it is

Gold has no value in itself. Its a rock. Its people giving that thing value by moving currency assets into it to profit from the scarcity and "unprintability" of that asset. Its value will drop when people think other assets are more profitable and increase when they think gold is.

Addressed prior. Gold has the intrinsic value of being able to be used as sound money. Very few things can be used as money.
>Its just that you think the risk of the USD imploding is higher than I believe it is
It doesn't need to implode. It's unsound and not worthy of trust.
>Its value will drop when people think other assets are more profitable and increase when they think gold is.
And these assets are few and far between right now. Gold's value should be measured against the valuation of these other assets. Gold is the unit /pmg/ uses and against gold, those assets are incredibly risky and overvalued. 13 ounces of gold to match the Dow Jones? 150 oz for a tax liabilty that lasts 20 years tops? peh.

gold is special because we continue to value it for the last 5000 years. it's literally created from supernovae. you can print currency til the cows come home but gold is special.

PMs check all the qualifiers required to be money. And they do it better than any other commodity.

-Acceptable

-Fungible

Remove one of these qualities and it cannot be proper money. Understand that PMs were not used because of bias towards them. They are simply the best candidates for being money.

The other points I kind of agree with. Except that gold is "special". Its an asset class. Like land.
Its fairly stable and does not depend on the gouvernment or power or companies doing well. But people will lose interest and sell when another good asset comes along. It perfomed worse than SPY over the last 20 years and may do so for the next 20 years. Or not. Its an asset, not special, not promised to increase in value.

Ok first off I know that I am baited but I'll bite. Gold is valuable because it works as money. Since the fucking agricultural revolution it has been selected by independent people to serve as money and it has worked in this purpose for thousands of years. It makes very little difference whether or not it has some OTHER use case than as money. It has flawless track record for maintaining it's purchasing powers through different eras and regimes. On that point I must add that it's funny all these zoomers hyped up about decentralized finance and all the different shitcoins (including the shittest of all coins, the bitcoin) when gold has always been the perfect decentralized money. Gold is not dependent on any particular system since it exist in the physical world. It has limited supply, yes there is more of gold but if you wan't it you need to spend resources energy and work to obtain it. No one can just type it into existence and make it go worthless. This is why it has the perfect track record of maintaining value and purchasing power despite of eras and regimes. All you zoomers and other shitcoin retards should learn some history about the king of decentralized finance - the golden boomer rock.

Gold backing the currency does not prohibit electronic transfers in any way shape or form. What you are stating is a tired, dis proven trope.

If anything having all currencies pegged to gold again would greatly simplify and stream line international trade as everything would have the same marker as opposed to ambiguous baskets of currencies measured against one another.

At this point blacks can literally burn, loot, and murder with nigh impunity, and if any white dares defend himself they'll be arrested and charged with murder.

Lol @ fudders coping. There are wayy better ways to fud but Im not gonna divulge them here unless paid in gold bullion for my super effective gold fud.

Also gold is literally magical. Ping a gold eagle sometime, or watch mercury and gold amalgamate on youtube. Fun fact, if you put a mercury capsule on an old tv rabbit ears antenna, it can pick up signals from around the entire fucking world. Maybe gold helps enhance that? Soft metals are better at picking up vibrations prolly, idk. Gold was used as a coating on many of the weird weathervane type items that place on top of "victorian" era and earlier buildings that were definitely used to capture energy from the ionosphere.

inb4 meds. I dont care. I'm never trading my gold, not even for Treasury Bucks. Thats what half of my silver stack is for, and the proceeds of which will be used to fund my alchemy and energy research.

Hello
I am still extremely bullish on silver with longterm calls.
However, tomorrow we are going to see red - if you have any short-term calls, I highly recommend you sell right now

There is not enough steam to push through $30 right now - there is wayyy too much resistance without any "BS" news to justify the push

If you are worried that it'll break $30 and you'll get left behind, don't worry - if it breaks $30, there's nothing stopping it to hit $50 - it won't be a big deal if you get in at $33 instead of $28

Save yourself from getting burned on your short-term options / take your profits

I personally am in 8/21 Puts, just to sell tomorrow after the market bottoms out

With that said, some news story could break before tomorrow that pushes it higher
but without that news story, Tokyo is going to go red, driving Hong Kong to go red - it will be hard to stop that Asian market momentum

Again, I am only talking to people here who are holding short-term calls - if you are holding long-term (or physical) don't change your position at all

That is an interesting consideration, but I figure at best it will delay the inflation by a few months. People will still be spending, and the helicopter money will be infinite. Eventually people will either have paid off all that debt and start spending again, or people will continue to spend as they pay the debt off with the helicopter money. At worst money velocity is stalled for a month or two, with an eventual return to what it was before and a faster increase.

Will have to see how Tokyo / Hong Kong open, but my rough guess is $26.80 low for the day
I think it will go under $27, and people will panic and exit positions, then there will be major buying action ~$26.80 and it will hold
(but if Tokyo / Hong Kong open strongly red then it's possible $26.40 or $26.50)

I do think though that the week will close out green strongly on Friday - I'm not sure what will happen Thursday either, I just strongly feel that Wednesday is going to be red - there is too much stacked against a rise (and prices follow the path of least resistance)

I mean, theoretically, you could sell them and then just go back into the position tomorrow, but you risk following the advice of a stranger on a Malaysian Basket Weaving Forum & lose your advantageous entry position
(in general, if you think that your position is the right one to be in, you shouldn't change it for a very short-term price fluctuation)

September is going to be a crazy month - I would not wait until October to sell your call, as I think you'll suffer theta decay from the major action that'll happen September

They're stuck between a wall and a hard place
The economy / interest rates had not recovered enough since 2008 crisis; their normal monetary policy tools (cutting interest rates/ quantitative easing) can't work when rates are practically at 0 and the banks didn't do anything to change their behavior with the QE (very few lessons were learned by the banks after 2008)

They're stuck between printing more money and allowing inflation to go past 2% (which is part of their dual mandate) or let the economy go into a serious depression (which is part of their dual mandate)
Between the two, they would rather go for inflation and hope for the best, than go for the option that that is guaranteed to equal depression

So is bitcoins. Why do you think you can buy bullions with bitcoins. You cant buy bitcoins with PM. I have both. Just saying. Bitcoin is not tangible (but it is in a virtual sense in your own virtual wallet) but checks every other box. It is also traded with other countries. It runs 24 7 no circuit breakers and countries have found it as safe haven. I am doing a considerable purchase in gold when it hits 1500. Too high for me to swap crypto for.

But these facts are being met with huge fiscal response, where as in the 1930's they fought the deflationary pressure and depression with austerity. For the fed to fight deflation, they will have to find methods of creating inflation, and will go overboard. So whatever deflationary pressure we have now will not last long in my opinion. Its the biggest issue I have with Dr Lacy Hunts thesis. he is right about all the deflationary pressures, but Politically no one will do austerity, the Fed wants to keep asset prices inflated, people want gibs, and the fiscal policy is print print print. I don't see us entering a long term deflationary cycle.

Sure the contracts they put into the market are not backed by any real PMs and are nothing more than 1s and 0s. But the 1s and 0s that represent the money lost from closing those contracts or making deliveries on the ones they dont close they have to make back; not just enter back into a computer

I guess they end up having to pay cash value if they ever get called... right?

I wonder if they have done some math and figured out liability they are racking up versus whatever end they are trying to achieve here. Another thing to consider too is they get to go play with that cash in the stonk market while you are holding paper silver.

Why are they trying to so hard to keep the price down? Is it so they can acquire?

Only recently started buying silver (spot price was $22) with my brother. He seems to like buying coins where I’ve put more money on 10oz bars. Long term would it be better to buy larger amounts or smaller denominations?

Pic is of my stack so far

In the last bull market for gold (08-11) we went from $600 to $1900. A 3x.
This "bull market" has been from $1,200 to $2,000. Not even a 2x.
We are going to go to at least $2,500 before we we enter the bear market. And if they make stimulus checks permanent which IMO they will, gold will just be one of those things that always goes up the same way the S&P does.

Ehh kinda. It more goes something like this:
>JPM has used the silver market as a way to print money by manipulation using shorts to crash. They have historically held a large net short position on silver since 2009 or so.
>Now that we're in a bull market they can't close their shorts fast enough to avoid delivery on futures expiration.
For some reason they are still shorting the market even though it seems to be a zero sum game for them. Either they are trying to close their past shorts and switch to longs, or tame the market so they can keep printing.
Or possibly something more nefarious like the government doing this to avoid meltdown of the USD and using JPM as a scapegoat

Usually larger orders warrant smaller premiums/free shipping/ability to avoid tax. At the end of the day, just look up how much you're spending divided by the cost and compare it to spot. If you can find a small time purchase for $.10 over spot, go for it.
