TMF was worthwhile from 2010-2020 because it was composed of bonds from 2000 and earlier. These were MUCH better than than the shitty bonds at the time from ZIRP. So it was a great bond weighted, roughly anti-correlated asset to have when stocks seemed due for corrections or swings. As we swing towards 2030, the bonds it is composed of will be the non-treasuries of effective negative returns from 2010 onward. And thus useless when it was nice to have an anti-correlated asset to stocks that was traded on the stock exchange.
Future hedges will have to be something else. Either going all in on TQQQ and taking profits in the form of cash and using that as a deflation hedge. Or using something that tracks volatility.

1) when would I want to close out on my position? If the market price is getting closer to my bounds?

2) how would I close my position? buy back the exact call and put that I wrote? That would then get me to Profit = (initial premium I received) - (cost of call & put that I bought back), yes?
