Because people take profits out of link (and other altcoins) into eth, and transfer out of eth into link and other altcoins. It's a cycle that goes back and forth like a pendulum.

You it's not too hard to time it if you want to swing. Or you can just hold both link and eth and your portfolio will continue increasing in value no matter which way the pendulum swings
