BERKSHIRE bought BARRICK

he did not buy gold, he bought GOLD

It makes up 0.28% of the portfolio, while Visa is 0.97%, Coca Cola is 10.08%, and AAPL is 35.52%.
So I wouldn't get too excited, but it does make me wish I'd added to Barrick or the RING etf this week.

It should also be noted that they took out Yen denominated debt earlier this year. They're hedging some USD risk?

So reading through, Buffet is just buying a GOLD MINING STOCK not physical gold. Said gold mining stock is only getting a very very very very small percentage of portfolio funds allocated to it (0.28%). So don't cream your pants just yet, but it may spark a bullrun for mining stocks next week. Not going to see huge moves most likely though.

Presuming that I know the outcome of investigation, I'm more asking what are some signs I would see early in the day that it was the day. Or some signs I might see that it has reached bottom once if has begun.

For instance, in a market correction, I assume not everything goes down. Would a sign be a more averaged drop over an entire fund as opposed to the big individual winners and losers you see on a normal day?

What about large institutional withdraws from the markets or put options?

I never know how to read these. This is a 35,200 unit call purchase for strike of $175 sold at $55-59, so the transaction cost is ~$20,064. That's a very small sum of money, even on a loss that's a rounding error for a hedge.

That's normal. Stocks have a lot of volatility, or turbulence. Everyone in the market has different time horizons and perspectives on valuation. As an example, a trader sees value in a $.10 move, an investor sees no value distinction in a -/+$1 move. The former is likely scalping volatility and doing short term arbitrage, the latter is playing the waiting game. There's a third party which is the gambler, who is totally insensitive and is in the market for the rush of gambling. Of course then there's institutions, as well, they lean in every direction.

But yes, what you're seeing is a "correction" but the fact of the matter is, in this immediate timeframe, most everyone is insensitive to fundamental valuations. There's plenty of evidence of this just gandering at some of the PE values on major companies. People who narrate these things are often doing so ex post, weaving in some degree of fictional rationale to the movements. Sometime they have their own agendas. Would you trust a competitor's words? When Goldman Sachs says gold should hit 3k, would you follow their word into the PM market?
