I inherited medium 6 figures last year and decided to sit in cash while I got used to the idea of having it before I opened a brokerage account and started investing it. Put about 30% of it into an index fund in early February and the entire market crashed to fuck within a fortnight, I put more in to invest and ignore but also stupidly held inverse ETFs through half the recovery and lost about $15k on those. I'm currently about 40% in ETFs, 30% in various smaller trades, and 30% in cash because I don't fully trust the market right now. Thankfully I got lucky with some mining and biotech stocks and I'm up about 10% now when the market is dead even across the same period.

It's been a wild first few months.
